NC30/35

Post by Indiana Jones » Wed Oct 28, 2009 2:03 pm

I'm getting myself confused.
I have an NC30 chassis with an NC35 motor.
As far as I know, the CDI is NC30.
Is my NC30 CDI extracting the best from my NC35 motor given the difference in cams and presumably, timing?
Can I fit an NC35 CDI to my NC30 loom?
Just back after more searching. If I was to believe everything I read, my bike shouldn't be running in it's current config.
Is it possible that it's running with the NC30 loom with no mods?
More confused now.
The guy that did the swap is pretty sure it was just the motor that was changed????

An NC35 motor and MC30 loom/CDI shouldn't work together, unless its had VFR pick-ups fitted to it. If you can put up a pic of the motor, CDI and the bit of the loom that connects to the CDI then that will tell all.

PS, your scoop will be in the post tomorrow, been really busy and not ad a minute to bless myself recently

Can't find my camera right now,but I'm sure it's the RVF motor, alloy cases.
The CDI I have is a two plug affair,I take it that the RVF is a single plug?
Until I get the photos, does this help?
So, worst case senario is, I have to get an RVF loom, rev meter and pick ups?
I can't imagine that the RVF is at full potential with the VFR CDI ?

It shouldn't run.

Whats the engine number of the engine and i'll tell you what motor it is.

How did he make it fit, the frames are different, I don't think it's a straight swap?

A couple of different mounting points, but it fits fine.
I'll get the engine no. shortly.
I'm sure it's an RVF motor.
AFAIK it will work if the pick ups are changed, maybe more.
This is bugging me now.
Just as well I didn't go crazy buying stuff, then realise I have to buy all that stuff for an RVF.

Just like this one?

You need the pickups[1] to get the engine to run, that's it, you cannot use the NC35 CDI and even if you could wire it up the tacho wouldn't work.

[1] Either the NC30 has one and the NC35 two or the other way round.

Nah, straight swap apart from the electrics, only difference is the middle of the V hole isn't used and isn't tapped on the NC35, you need to tap it if you want to fit the engine properly (or just not use that bolt).

So, by my reckoning, to get the full potential from my RVF motor,I need the loom,CDI,pick ups and rev meter?
I'm sure the RVF motor running with the VFR ignition is not great? Can anyone supply some information as to what the effect of this would be?
What differences I would see with the matching loom?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for parts?

I've already PM'd abrmoto,so if anyone has any RVF electrics laying around, let me know.

You can run a different engine or electrics very easily.

The nc30 and nc35 cdi's are easy to tell apart: the nc30 unit is riveted together, the nc35 is sealed.
