NC 30 snotter general questions

Post by CharlieK » Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:09 pm

Hi guys, I have just bought a K plate NC30 which is in a hell of a state but runs, Im going to lavish some time and a couple of grand on it to turn it into an Rc30 replica. Im planning to post pictures as I go detailing the build, but first some questions for you experts.

1) The rear wheel bearings are shot, I have found an OE set on the NC30 club website but they want £147, is this reasonable or is there a better alternative?

2) In order to remove said wheel bearings the swing arm must be removed which is held in place but what looks like a castellated ring. Any ideas where I can get a tool to remove it?

3) Im planning to rebuild the forks myself, can anyone recommend a kit?

4) The clutch casing needs respraying after a low speed spill, what paint should I use?

and finally for now, I want to get the engine checked over and the carbs setup with the rebuilt exhaust system on a rolling road, can anyone recommend a good place to take it when the resto is nearing completion? Any advice greatfully received, cheers. Charlie.

Hi Charlie and :welcome:

1. I'm sure Geoff33(I think) on here might be able to help you out?!
2. I didn't think that was the case...could be wrong.
3. Rick Oliver on here does a rebuild kit, with full instructions!
4. Not sure on that one.
5. Where are you? Depends where you are really...

Hope that helps, probably not, but hay-ho.

Welcome to the site..

I recokn you need a cuppa tea, a Haynes manual and a few hours... Then read a bit on here, some more reading, another brew maybe?

Get your plans in and then do it over a weekend - simple

Yeah buy second hand off a reputable seller on here, who can say that the bearing are not bolloxed.

swingarm does not need to come off. take off the wheel, 36 socket, take off the sprocket 42 socket, then you will see it is held in with a large circlip. there is no need to remove the whole swingarm.

you can get this off RickOliver on this site

halfords colour match it, some one on here has the answer. the front forks are ford metalic grey, not sure on engine covers

Finally my Haynes manual has arrived and I can see how to proceed. Thanks Declan, again! Im busy with work till the middle of Nov, but Ill put some pics on then to show progress. So far, all the body work is off and being repaired ready to be resprayed, cam covers are off ready for a valve clearance check. Top rad has been stripped cleaned and repainted, having a bottom rad build from scratch using the origional as a pattern. I bought a straight second hand subframe to replace the origional bent one, sanded and painted and ready to go on. All I need is the time to get on with it!!!

geoff33 is your man for bits, send him a pm, and £147 is way too much for bearings.
How hard can it be?
