Post by mart »

ok finaly got all the nc30 bits ready and on the bike ready for start up new oil, filter, coolent, done all the shims and just cleaned the plugs. Attempt no 1 drained the battery trying to start it! battery recharged ready for attempt no2 starting to get some life, the engine sound like its trying to turn over, then i hear this loud sqeel and crack, oh bugger. took the rear cam cover off and spun the starter clutch every thing ok there plenty of oil no restance. put the bike in second gear pushed the bike rear wheel moving ok :? :?. went for lunch and back to the bike fairly sure its not seized. attempt no3 try to start it again, no noise this time but did'nt fire up and again, this time with the same squeel and crack.
has anyone got any ideas before i strip down the engine im thinking its the pistons
thanks mart

You didnt disassemble anything before, just replaced the above? And you didnt drop a shim in the engine? Sounds like it might be a problem with the starter motor or starter clutch.. You could open the right hand crankcase cover with engine in frame, just drain oil, and look for obvious damage on the gearing to the starter clutch.. If theres a squeel & cracking sound its prob better not to try start the bike again untill you know where this is coming from

I have stripped the splines off my starter motor before.. it made a squeeling and there was a lot of metal in may sump...

get the cover off and check... can you turn the bike over with a socket and bar?

yep ive turned the bike over via the starter clutch with a 14mm socket. all moves fine and oil is getting to the heads. the sound does sound like its coming from the starter motor
every thing was counted going in and out of the bike so im pretty sure its nothing left behind there

If theres no metal floating around i the sump then more than likely a problem with the starter.. Maybe take it to motor company to have it tested for torque etc. Also check the gear between the starter and the starter clutch
