Bottom radiator query?

Post by nc30boiii »

Hi all,
Just wondering, should i be alarmed by my bottom radiator, here are some pics.
If so how can i check if it is in a good working order?

I recently read on here that the bottom rads can rot easily and im guessin mine is 17 years old by the looks of things!!
Ive just flushed the rads to find that they didnt even need flushing!! Gutted, better safe than sorry though!
Thanks

As long as your bike isn't getting too hot and the rad is holding coolant i wouldn't worry.
If your concerned then remove the bottom rad and soak it in soapy water overnight then get a fine paintbrush to clean the fins.
But I wouldn't worry about it....

is that a wet patch on the left ? or did you spray it with something ?
i personally would remove it, remove the fan, soak it in a bucket of water for a couple of days occasionaly turning end ensuring the crud is soaked.
then from the rear hose through first while brushing the fins from the front with a brush to loosen as much muck as you can.
if you can see through it then its doing its job, if three inches in the middle are blocked then its only working around 60% max.
a small cable tie and tweezers taking your time to straighten all the fins and poke through is boring as hell but nice to see when your temp drops quite a bit after.

Cheers guys,
yeah CRM thats just a wet patch from draining the old coolant that was in there!
Im gonna take the bottom rad off and follow the method you have said and see what damage there is/or isn't.
Im guessin it could take a long time to straighten all the radiator fins though?
Does the fan come off the radiator easily?
Fitted the ignition and tank locks earlier :) and also been pricing up some bt090's which i should get fitted in a couple of weeks so this NC30 is well and truly back on the mend!!
