Most other hondas are ok my cb500s is fine and my 87 vfr750 is ok.
It affects a lot of other hondas also.

Buying honda reg/recs is false economy, the newer ones aren't much better.

Yamaha units are the way to go, I've never had any problems since I've used them.

With that much wiring fried it would also pay to check the condition of the stator...

Ok if my stator windings are toast where can i buy a good one from can't see any on ebay also what causes the stator to fail if the reg/rec packs up does that then cook the stator? if i buy a reg/rec from a yamaha yzf r6 will it just plug in to my wiring or do i have to cut wires can anyone post a pic of a r6 unit so i can see.

if you have a multimeter then you can do a simple test to see if the alternator is goosed.........disconnect the block connector which comes from the alternator to the right hand side of the bike.using a multimeter set to ac volts test what the output of the stator windings are.do this with the bike idling at 5000rpm and take three seperate readings.they should all read 50 volts or above,if any are below 50 or any are different then the altator is goosed.

same happened with mine.i went through three reg rec and then fitted a new battery and reg rec and everything was hunky dory then it starting lose its charge....it was a weak charge and it was the alternator, since replacing it everything has been brill....touch wood lol!!!!!!
please,god,....give me the chance to prove that winning the lottery won't spoil me!!!

You just cut off the old plug and solder on standard sized electrical spade connectors.

I found the problem most satisfied and everyone is deserved of much beer who helped me with this the burnt wire that is in the pic that i posted was draining the battery when i moved the connecter block from side to side my lights got brighter as i reved the engine tested the charge with the multi meter and it read 14.2 volts moved the block connecter again and the reading was 12. something now i can reward my nc with a good thrashing to the french F1 GP this weekend. :D

Sorry lads no beer at the mo reg caught fire this evening thought i found the problem but when i replaced the block connecter with a spare i ripped off my cb500 which is the same as the nc pluged it in and all was ok for about 5 mins held the revs at 5000 with my hand on the reg and it got hotter and hotter until i could'nt hold it turned off the ignition and it went up in smoke can a alternator put out to much voltage?? As i reved the bike i turned on the lights they got brighter as i reved it so i thought that alternator was charging but to much i don't know maybe the reg was gossed and because i made the connection again with my new block connecter it finished it off.At the mo i can't test the output of the alternator because my crap FRENCH multimeter does'nt do AC.So perhaps just a shandy for now lol.
