Need some help with project NC24

So i bought this bike or banger as you guys would call it and it needs a ton of work. Which is no problem if you have the right information and that's whey I have joined.

Here's some questions that i need help with.

-Compression testing-What sort out figures should I be looking for?

-NC24 wiring loom- Someone has chopped up the wiring loom in the bike so I'll need another one. Are the looms the same for the NC30 as I have found a few of these on ebay.

-NC24 CDI unit- It's missing, so like the loom, does it need to be from the NC24 or can I use other models ones?

-Starter solenoid-Is the same on most honda bikes? I have a few CBR one floating around, but I thought I'd ask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few wiring looms for NC24's on Ebay at the moment, about £15 I think, been on there loads for my recent project. Same with the starter solenoid as well.

If you need a workshop manual to help with your project go to THIS LINK and you can use the NC30 manual for the engine and the VFR 750 manual for the bodywork etc. That is as close as you can get to a full workshop manual for a NC24. As they only made NC24 manuals in Japanese.

No it wont.

Wiring loom has to be NC24

Hardly anything from the NC30 will fit the NC24.

The ignition box has to be an NC24 Oki unit.

Starter solenoids are 'generic'

Compression. 142 - 200psi (9.8 - 13.8 bar)

NC24 parts can be hard to get (exhaust / collectorbox are very rare) bikes suffer bad electric problems too. Can very easily turn into a bottemless pit where money is concerned. Never seem to fetch much even decent ones, NC30/35 are much more saught after.

Lots of 24's knocking about though.

I have a few of them, i've paid between £650 for one that was pretty much mint (14,000km) original everything and £80.00 for one that works surprisingly well after it had the carbs sorted and a service :D

Thanks for your reply. I kinda of wished I did some research before I jumped into this one.

I'll do a compression test first and then I will go from there. I'm pretty clued up with wiring and electrics so I may even just repair this loom if I can find a manual.

My mates got some info so I'll see what he can do for me.

I've found a complete loom and cdi on ebay from the UK, but the guy wants £75 AND THE SHIPPING IS £65.

That seems a bit steep to me. I hope I haven't offended anyone from here as they may be a member.

I've been chatting to someone else that has some parts and his from the uk and his prices seem reasonable.

If you can find a cheap loom on ebay UK I dont' mind buying it for you and posting it. The shipping will be cheap

If you need to know anythign else just ask.

And yes. While it may sound disheartening, I do usually advise people to get rid of a scrapper as theres pleanty of decent 24's available. Esepecially from Japan (which is closer to you!)

But if you've started you may as well see how far you can get (within budget reason)

Err.. the electrcial system is the big downfall of these bikes so you may find thats dead too when its up and running.

The headgaskets are pretty much bulletproof. (I drove one back 150 miles with no waterpump) and it was fine.
