A thank you and a few questions
Hi All,
Firstly, I just wanted to thank everyone who's answered my questions over the past couple of years, whilst I've slowly done bits and bobs to my NC30. I finally have it running again and have a couple* more questions which I need to resolve before trying to get it through it's MOT.
1) The Speedo Drive is pretty well seized. I can turn it with pliers, but not by hand. It looks like it's a sealed unit so I'll be needing another one. Am I right that you can't get them open? If so, does anyone have one laying about they fancy selling?
2) Because the speedo drive is solid, the little plastic doohickey that drives it is also chewed up. I remember someone on here makes aluminium ones but I couldn't find their details.
3) Has anyone taken a bike through a MOT using an aftermarket speedo/tacho? I'm thinking of eventually putting a Vapor/Viper on in place of the standard dials and if I can do this I could bypass fixing the speedo drive.
4) Does anyone know if having fairings fitted is mandatory or could cause a MOT fail? My fairings are pretty much wrecked. I can probably get them back on the bike, but I'd rather not if there's a pretty real chance I'll have to have them off straight after the MOT to fix whatever is found
5) I'm about to replace the last inch or two of wire on the loom where it connects to the reg/rec as the wiring is pretty badly burned (new reg/reg also fitted). Am I safe using crimp connectors on the end of the loom, or does it want soldering? It might be a daft question, but I'm just cautious about burning out another part of the charging question.

The speedo isn't tested during the MOT. As long as it reads in MPH it'll pass regardless of if it works.

Thanks, that's really good to know. It perhaps also explains how my bike came to have a duff speedo but didn't have that listed on it's mot fail certificate. Although I have a suspicion that I only got page 2 of the mot fail document when I bought the bike!

If so you can access the fail sheet online and see all the details.

Put in the Reg Number and the V5 Document number and et-voila!

Thanks for the link Neosophist! I've discovered that:
My bike was originally Silver/Black
It may have had it's front wheel replaced as it failed on front wheel damage in 2005
Last time it failed was in 2006, with only very minor issues (headlight aim, rear light and no reflector)
Has covered 64,263 Kilometres!!!
The good news I guess is that the last fail was only on minor points, so I'll take it in and see how it goes this time.

I sold a car once with 128,000 miles on the clock, i saw it on ebay 6 months later with 55,000 miles on the clock. (these were the days before computerised records)
Theres much less of that now
