rev counter/tacho for track bike

Post by nick »

I've done a search and so far i've not found the answer i'm looking for, so hopefully someone out there can help.

I'm converting my 4dx to a track bike and as such i'm not planning on using the clocks. Is there another model in the FZR range that could provide just the tacho (earlier 400 perhaps) that i can plumb into the loom?

Also, i'd like to rig up a neutral light and the oil light as these would be kinda handy. Do i just find the relevant wires that go into the clocks and connect them up to a couple of bulbs?

I'm not the most 'electrically' minding so any help on the wiring would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nick.

The best thing would be a 3TJ / 4DX tacho ... I've seen some bikes with the speedo just cut off.

Yup - your right about the neutral and oil pressure light just trace the wires in the back of the clocks

I have a set of 600 clocks on my 3tj hybrid , I cut the speedo off and left the rest then made an aluminium dash board sort of thing to support the rev counter and temp gauge and the rest of the light in side the fairing , if i can figure out how to post some pics i would as i'm just finishing off the project at the minute

My trackbike has a scitsu tacho. It has a nicad battery inside and will work for up to 8 hrs without a charge. Doesnt use any of the original wiring, it just has 1 cable which you attach to 1 of the ht leads. Ideal if you are running total loss electrics.

Those Vapour digital dashes have the same idea with one wire to wrap round one of the HT leads , gives you speed and water temp as well . they can run on a 9v battery , worked OK on a Power-Valve track bike i had . I also ran an Elliot Tacho on my F400 race bike , 3 wires + , - and a single wire from the original tacho . They are a bit sensitive to volts , so if you are running total loss the scitsu the one to have .

Looked at the Vapor stuff, but it seems to be for off road bikes, is there one for road bikes?
