Stealth 310mm front discs

Post by mozzi3 »

Nice to see this forum is still going strong must be 5 years since i was last here.....In fact so long i needed to re-register

Anyway as the title suggests is anyone here using these discs. I have the Carward race eng adaptors, Fireblade calipers and m/c and OE Honda sintered pads. However i've never been happy with the discs stealth 310mm rotors on NC30 carriers. Does anyone else here have this same set up? The metal from the discs seems to pick up on the pads giving a very grabby feel which you feel a lot more at low speeds with lots of judder. The discs are ok for runout, the calipers aren't sticking and the headrace bearings (tapered) are all ok. (no problem with original calipers / discs etc). I tried brembo and EBC pads all to the same effect. I'm convinced the problem is the material that the discs are made from..

Also does anyone know if there are any 310mm rotors available for the NC30 carriers? Or what 310 discs will bolt on to the NC30 standard front wheel (92 model)??

Thanks for any advice..

hi Mozzi,

Welcome back.

I have 298mm stealth rotors on their own carriers and I also use the larger block Nissin calipers on brackets.

I find them to be spot on, not grabby and very stable. I have the wavy rotors though? I have used Nissin pads, EBC pads, Armstrong pads and also some ferodo jobbies too. I find the EBC best.

Your options are to find some RC30 discs as they are 310mm and a straight fit on the wheel..

If you want to flog your other discs...I could be tempted ;)

Hi CMSMJ1,

Thanks for the reply....I wouldn't be so keen to sell them in my opinion they have a problem i'll try and get some photo's up to show how they have worn. They have only done a few thousand km and i gave up on them and have only been riding my other bike..

Let's have a look..

They are only a couple of miles from me....so I can go shout at them if I have too... but they have been great for me.

Attached should be two photos of the discs and also the pads i've been using, OE Nissin HH compound. If you look closely at the disc i think there is some 'Galling' going on. There are also some deep scores in both the discs and the pads. And even if they don't look so bad to some of you they don't feel good at all.

Doesn't look to good that... Mine are nothing like that - lots of iron in mine as they'll rust up over a weekend. I almost bought some pads for racing that had a specific compound for stainless/non ferrous steels. I took them back and swapped for EBC HH and they are fine.

I have also used the Nissin pads and found them great.

Might be that your rotor is different steel to mine.

I'd get in touch with Stealth and ask them. End of the day they want to be known to sell a quality product adn I would expect they will look into it for you.

Thought so, i've never seen discs wear like this either... I sent stealth an e-mail earlier this evening so will be interesting to see what they have to say. Trouble is i've had them for a few years now as i've been too tied up with work and been out of the country, however they have had hardly any use, the poor NC has been sat around, only a few short trips to keep things moving. I should have been a bit more forceful with Carward Eng after i fitted them and noticed something was wrong at the time, a bit more than they just need to bed in...... Anyway expensive lesson learnt!!

Well after 3 e-mails and nearly a week still heard nothing from Stealth Products, awesome service!!!!They obviously have enough happy customers not to give a S*!# about any with problems. Time to take them down to the local bike shop and hang them on their wall of shame...

my discs are looking like that , my workshop buddy said dodgy wheel bearings could possibly be the cause so i replaced them now, will see if the discs start to smooth over, also he noticed me spacers wernt in very good condition and said i should get that sorted too , but he tends to think its all related to the dark scoring on the discs , very interesting subject this as its bugging me at the mo too

Well maybe but my wheel bearings are OK, nice and smooth and runout all within spec on the wheels/discs and also new spacers when i fitted the discs. My conclusion is that they are made out of the wrong grade of steel. (They were fine with the old calipers and NC30 discs). As i haven't heard anything from Stealth i can only assume they are a not at all bothered about the safety of the people they are supplying thier products to, or they know full well with some of thier discs there could be a problem and just don't want to admit it. I don't know why as many people seem to be happy with them... As it's been a while since i purchased them all i wanted was to know what was the problem is..I'd have even bought another set... Anyway i've seen Mr Oliver sells adapters for my firebalde calipers and EBC discs so i'll proabably be going for a set of them next. Are you running the same calipers and and spacers for the Carward/Stealth 310mm kit?
