NC23 Problems... HELP! :(

Post by sh4d0w0lf »

hey guys,

First post for a while, but here goes.

Having just replaced the old engine (knocking crank) and completey rebuilding the spare engine that come with it (seized and seemingly knackered gearbox and clutch springs (all sorted).

Now i've had the replacement engine started about a month ago (with extreme difficulty) however atm no attempts of jump starting and or starting off the starter motor (im having problems with that too! 'will get to that later in the post'). there shouldn't be a head gasket problem as ive had the right hand side casing off to replace the clutch springs and the oil looked normal. I've also checked the fuel pump, pipes, filter, tank and even had the carbs cleaned to try and rectify the problem to no avail. ive started checking the spark from the plugs, the plugs are showing a blue spark between the electrodes and a white spark between the electrodes and the frame.

The starter motor is working intermitedly (ive replaced the stater motor with the one from the old engine (which i know works) and im still having the same problem? Also ive noticed that when the starter motor doesn't work the starter relay makes an annoying yet worrying clicking noise. i have checked all the connectors on the loom yet i still cannot trace the problem to rectify it.

If anyone has any idea of how to rectify the problems that i am having it would be very appreciative

Thanks.

Start simple. How is your battery?

Make sure all your earth wires are tight.

Have a strong battery with a spare charging ready to go.

Choke.

If the carbs have been dry for a while it might be an idea to get a small funnel on the end of the fuel line into the carbs and pour some juice in manually just to manually fill them and make it ready to start - worked like a charm for us NC30 owners with vacuum fuel taps.

Kill Switch .. its the silly things that often get us.

Dont crank for too long in one go as you'll end up overheating your starter motor.

Good luck 8-)

Brand spankingly new battery tbh. terminals are tight ect. kill switch ive quadrouple checked :(

Just thinking when i did have it running it would only run on the choke dies the second you take it off the choke :|
Forgot to ask as to why the bike might be doing that :S

however, i smooth hammerited the rear subframe... could that have something to do with it? hmmmmn... might check that tommorow if i get a chance.

any ideas?

cheers.

Where you sprayed the subframe make sure you file back to metal where the reg/rec earth connects..

Charge the battery up first to.. when it ticks and doesnt turn over usually means flat battery.. - possibly caused by a bad earth..

Use jump leads and start it off a car..

See if it runs ok while plugged in..

If not check plugs and ht leads

If it does run ok take the jump leads off and see what happens.. if it dies might mean that you need a new battery, reg/rec may not be working correctly.. do you have a multi meter?
