WOW WOW WOW!!!

ECU's (CDI's Whatever you want to call them!) Arent normally a common problem on these bikes and very rarely should they require changing!
They can cost a lot of money, and My bet is, it wont fix your problem!

Here is what I think your problem is...

Underneath the Speedometer/tachometer, there is a connector block which is normally used a as restriction on the bike. At a certain RPM range, it cuts power to the rear cylinders, giving conditions like you describe.
Have a look around under there, ease the clocks off and the front nose fairing to give yourself some room, you will need it. Check for any loose connections or damaged wires. If there was a resistor mod done on the Connector block, to bypass the restrictions, it would be my guess that this has fallen out, and by simply replaceing it your bike should be back to normal. (better now in fact, as the Cabrs have been cleaned up. LOL)
Another thing which can cause this problem is the left hand switchgear, or a fault on the lighting system. (Normally headlights..) If the wires short out on the light circuit somehwere, they can blow the fuse for the Tachometer and indicator/HighBeam/Oil/Neutral lights on the Dash. This would mean your Rev counter isnt working also, and your bike will only ever work on two cylinders if that is the case as the CDI recognises the Tachometer isnt working and cuts the power, as a sort of Failsafe for the Restrictor.

SO basically, have a good look at the wiring on the front of your bike, I think that is where the problem will be and not in the CDI!!

The point being that the restriction caused by lack of speedo only kicks in at 5.5k revs...so if it runs on 4 before that then Mr Excitable has WOW'd us ;) :ninja:

CDI don't normally fail but then again, neither does half your sparking system... :ugeek:
