Bandit 400 J reg engine (VC??)
Hello, I have a b4 J reg but the rockers have split I have been told Its easier to get a new engine.
I have seen a J reg engine with the letters VC on the side of the engine, were as my bike does not have VC on the side.
Will it fit?

Hi there,
The VC motor will not fit the standard B4, the camsensors stick out the side of the head and the frame is altered to fit them in, theres also carb sensor and different loom/cdi. There were a set of B4 followers on eeebay.

Re: Bandit 400 J reg engine (VC??)
Hi
Sorry to question you, I believe you are right but can you confirm something for me. I don't know anything about engines myself so thanks for your time, however I am still confused.
My Bike is a J reg B4 ( my bikes mots show first use as December 1991 )
Wikipedia shows two engine models from 1991;
# GSF400VM (VC Engine model) (from June 1991)
# GSF400VZM (VC Engine Limited model) (from August 1991)
Both VC engines??
My bike does not have the letters VC on the side of the engine, is it possible that it could be a VC engine?
My other question is, If the engine would not fit, could I replace the rockers and valves from the VC to my bike?
Pat.

Re: Bandit 400 J reg engine (VC??)
Hi Pat,
Suzuki made non VC 'm' model b4's, infact it was the first year they officially imported into the UK and Germany ( single discs and high risers) so your bike could be an 'M' model or if a jap import could be a 'K' or 'L' model due to the uk plate showing when it was registered, not made. If the old motor is a VC it will say so and be black with a red rocker cover, have an oil pipe up the front from the sump to the head and have the chrome cam covers on the side of the rocker/head. Im afraid the VC parts will not fit the standard B4 as the VC uses shims for adjustment and the standard motor uses lock pin type and so the followers are very different.
If you need any help ask away as i have both type bikes and have rebuild both motors.
Chris.
