Seat Mounts
Hi all,
yes im looking for more help! but i guess thats what this place its for.
anyways, ive got an NC30 bought her in may this year... awesome bike.
current issue im having is that when i got it, one of the seat mount "tabs" was broken/missing and the other was cracked.
so i re-enforced the cracked one with a bit of epoxy but after a short time it managed to snap off again, gutted
so now my seat is loose, and can be easily removed just by picking it up
how often does this happen? looks like the design is a little fail to start with.
Any suggestions on what i can do? ill get pics soon so you can see exactly what im talking about
had a bit of a search and couldnt see any other threads about the same thing, i thought it might be quite common but maybe not.
anyways, thanks for looking. any help would be awesome.
cheers
Sam

Re: Seat Mounts
Google 'Plastex'.
Well thought of by all that use it.
If there is enough of the original lug(s) remaining you should be able to use it to create a former to mould a new piece. All will be revealed on their site.
Regards,
Tom

Re: Seat Mounts
Not used Plastex but had same problem with mine. No lugs at all so nothing to work from. I took a couple of thin sheets of Aluminium covered in masking tape (so aluminium can be easily pealed away once dry)then bent and moulded to form a shelf to apply fibre glass too. Made them bigger than required and once dried grindered and sanded then down to shape. From memory the lugs are offset so check position of locating pins on seat base to get new tabs in right place. don't forget to key fibre glass on to existing bodywork by sanding away a little to allow a good strong bond. Worked a treat and stood up well for me.

Re: Seat Mounts
other option to secure it, use 4 s small short self tappers, and screw the seat down from the underside. stop it going anywhere, and unless you use screws too long dont go through the padding.

Re: Seat Mounts
I had the same problem as you buddy, I drilled to 6mm holes into the mudgaurd/undertray, and 2 through the seat pan. 1 long cable tie and the seats secured nicely, can get a picture if you wanna try my idea, it's alot cheaper than new plastics!

Re: Seat Mounts
Plastex - don't go the fibreglass route with the original plastics you'll just end up doing it again within a few weeks/months and it wont look nice.
Spend 20 quid on this stuff you'll be surprised how good it really is I was a sceptic and found myself genuinely surprised.
After saturdays motorway debris/cbr fairing accident I've just found myself ordering some more to repair some smashed out lugs and I'm confident it'll work !

Re: Seat Mounts
I use the old washer technique , i've covered 2 large washers in electrical tape an slightly bent them with pliersto match the contour of the plastic . Bolt the seat the the bodywork then attach to bike , worked a treat .. even with my fat rump in the saddle
