side fairing bolts/spacers
hi all just about got the mechanics of the bike done, all needed now really is the fairings sorting, what a mess, all the fairings are after market dont fit welll at all looks like many days of sorting.
anyway can anyone help i need pictures and some rough measurements for the side panels spacers/bolts, the ones that bolt onto the frame, all the parts are missing and want to make some, ideal measurements are the length of the spacer/rod or what ever it should be so i get an idea of the distance the fairing should be at, will get some pictures shortly of the bike if it helps
thanks in advance

Re: side fairing bolts/spacers
Hi Mart,
Is it the sidepanel /tailpiece that you mean?
Ive just rebuilt an NC30 and the rear side panel are only held on by three large bolts on either side. They have a 6mm thread and have a built in spacer with a head aprox 20mm or so. I just bought them from Dave silver as they were only a couple of quid each. By the way its the same bolt that goes through the centre of the front fairing
If its the main fairing that you mean, theres not a lot to them either. The top cowl is held on by the mirror brace and 1 bolt in the centre that I mentioned earlier. The mid cowls clip in to the top cowl and are held on to the lower cowl using 2 dzus fastners at the front and 1 6mm screw at the rear with a built in spacer. The lower cowl is held into place by 1 bracket just below and in front of the footrest hangar.
If you click the following link you can download a genuine workshop manual and parts book that shows everything you need

Re: side fairing bolts/spacers
it looks like the item (64517-mr8-000 collar, cowl seating), seems to be a spacer that has a long bolt that goes in it, will see if i can get some tube from work and weld some washers to set the right length, the nose cone to the next panel is the part that is a really bad fit, has some silly plastic clips that are fixed to the fairing, will modify it to fit some fasteners, is it best to use dzus fasteners for fairing or just the front ones can get pretty much most fasteners but with the fairing being a bit naff want to fit and forget until i can get hold of some original fairing or at least some that fit good
thanks again for help

Re: side fairing bolts/spacers
If it's a dodgy fit to start with you're probably better of bodging up some spacers and bolts that will make everything fit right.
It's not too hard, just a bit of time.

Re: side fairing bolts/spacers
totally agree. I thinks its going to be a case of making up temporary spacers until its right, then fabricate them properly when you know there good.
I'm not a major fan of the dzus fastners, it seems to miss the point with the NC30 as the lower fairings are attched to the mid section with 2 dzus type fastners, the third is a screw into the bracket on the frame
