If applied properly to a hot chain and wiped down with a rag....none of them fling off. If it flings off your using too much lube.

The best stuff for cleaning off oil and grease etc from a motorcycle is Gunk which usually comes in an orange tin or spray can.Spray on,leave for five minutes and then wash off with water.I use a rag,warm water with a little washing-up liquid,and then a rinse with cold water.

Parafin is probably the best solvent to clean the chain with. I don't have the website to hand but an engineer did some tests that show'd that WD40 and Petrol are too aggressive to use and penetrate the O-rings and dry out the grease from the inside (bad for chain)

I used your advice regarding the parrafin, and being a former user of WD40/petrol, i shall put my hands together for parrafin for being my new number 1 for chain cleaning solvents

More expensive than parrafin.. unless you go red I guess. Never tried it, parafins always been the best i know of. you can also filter the dirty parafin and use it to heat the greenhouse in a cheap heater :D

Mind you i guess you could do that with diesel too

I've heard that frequent use of parrafin on 'o ring' chain can decrease chain life due to the parrafin getting behind the O ring seal?

Is this right or cods wallop?
