NEW NC35 Owner - Is this speed common ?

Howdy guys

Right this is how the story goes..

I had a Yamaha R1, crashed it, sold it, decided to go back to basics and master knee and elbow down, and what better bike to do that on than a scaled down RC45, the RVF400

I paid 2.5k for the bike and not ridden it since I got it apart from to mot station and back, Saturday was my first real run on it.

First thing I did was take it for a top speed run when I got it all nice and warmed up, guess what the bike topped out at ? ohhh go on guess ?



107mph ! ... unbelieveable .. sommat is defo up there Mine has a full TYGA exhaust on it and arn't these supposed to be booked at 133mph ? 125's will be passing me at this rate

Also I noticed a HUGE flat spot in the midrange from around 6-9k rpm but 7,000rpm is when its at its most noticable.

Finally I have a problem with my brakes, I put new TYGA levers on and new pads and when I go out for a run, 10 mins later the brakes lock on solid and the lever is solid and I can't even pull it back in what's goin on there then, any ideas ? I cannot run the bike like this

Does anyone know why I am getting such a slow top speed and also anyone know if the flatspot is common and how to rectify it and my brake issue please ?

Is your brake resovior overfull? when the fuild and the pads get hot then they will all expand locking the brakes, make sure that the fluid level is between min and max with the resovior cap ON you will find than when you put the cap on the level goes up due to the baffel that goes in the resovior under the lid.

as regards to the flat spots, have you tried cleaning the carbs, it may have been sitting a while and be all gummed up.give the carbs a good clean and if you can check the balancing and this should help.

is it 33bhp restricted?

We've been here before with your brakes too I reckon! Too much fluid in the res I reckon.

sounds restricted to me, if not get the carbs cleaned and balanced adn get it on a dyno to see what she's pullin

+1 to overfillin the res, could explain y your speed is down too if their binding on

OK how can I find out if its restricted ?

Also the res is half full but I did notice when cleaning around the pistons one was really hard / impossible to push back, maybe its time for caliper strip and clean behind those pistons and try again ?

Might be a silly question this but, when I first got the bike the speedo wasn't connected for some reason, I took it out and it felt fast, since then I have got it working, could this cause it to slow down ? is there a natural restriction on these bikes and how would I know.

is the tyga system a recent addition? the speedo restriction doesnt kick in until 112mph, so thats not it. As for the restriction it is 4 washers in the carbs, im not good with carbs though so I couldnt tell you where they would be (i'm not that useful )

if the restrictors plates are in place you can see thm easily by removing the airbox and opening the throttle while you physically reach in with something and lift the slide. You should have a clear view into the intake ports - if it looks like the path is partially blocked with a metal plate reducing the inlet hole - then the restrictor plates are in place. Remove the carbs and remove the plates.

the other restriction is just the speedo but as mentioned that kicks in later.

I am new to this bike too. But was also impressed by the relatively huge flat spot 5-7K rpm. Revs like a bat out of hell just past that point. I found a couple plug wires with some corrosion and am waiting on new wires. While waiting I took the carbs off and found a couple idle jets plugged and a few other dirty spots. Nothing huge and not restricted but I'm hopeful the combination electrical and low speed circuits un-clogged will help cure most of it.

Am gonna take tank off Wednesday and have a look and take some pics, while am there can someone tell me what I need to do to the clocks and I'l get that mod done as well.

If it has got the restricters fitted you should remove them and give them to me for my daughters bike Hope you get it sorted soon
