nc24 purchase advice
hi guys
im new to the forum but thought this would be the best place to start. i have recently been offered a nc24 for £300. the fairings are not in the best of conditions but everything else seems to be in order. the clocks have the rothmans logo on them and i am aware that a rothmans special edition nc24 was released but the colour scheme on this one is not the rothmans colours (i have put a picture up but its not the best quality im afraid. im sure the experts will recognise it though). can anyone tell me what model these fairings are from if not the nc24 as i can find many examples of it.
im trying to decide whether its worth to replace the fairings (as they are either extremely expensive or in a different colour scheme), attempt to repair and respray or just remove them and have a streetfightered version. any suggestions guys?
i havnt had the pleasure of riding the bike yet(or any other vfr400) and im planning on getting it mot`d taxed and cleaned thoroughly before putting it up for sale so im looking for suggestions on the best route to take with it really.

Re: nc24 purchase advice
Even if tatty I would say that £300 is good value especially if it is a going concern with an MOT.The most awkward and expensive potential fault is the rear exhaust pipes/collector box as this is only made of mild steel, likes to rust,is expensive and can be difficult to get hold of,and the engine has to come out to replace. The nc24 is a well made machine which will last a long time and many thousands of miles if looked after. It also goes like stink and handles superbly.I had one last year until it got nicked.I took the tatty fairing off mine and ran it naked because then I could make it more comfortable with higher bars and lower pegs.

Re: nc24 purchase advice
cheap? Its about right.
The rothmans model had the same clocks as every other model so I don't know what the logo your on about is, maybe somebody stuck it on?
Those are NC24 fairings but thats not standard NC24 colours so it's been repainted at some point.
NC24's in good to avg condition with tax / mot are fetching around £650 / £700 at the moment.
You can get a chinese copy fairing set for about £300.00
Regulators / Altenators and batteries are a weak point on these bikes so if its not charging ok can be pricey to repair.
Rear wheel bearings are expensive too due to the single sided swinarm, expect to pay around £70.00 for new bearings.
It's going to be about 20 years old so just check for general signs of wear and tear... the NC24, while fun to ride isn't desiried half as much as the NC30/35 so don't expect to make a fortune on it, especially after getting it tax'd mot'd.
There not bad though, i'd just take it for MOT and go from there, sell it as a cheap runaround as unless you specifically like the NC24 it could easily turn into a botemless pit which you'll never see back :D
My Rothsmans NC24 owes me about £2000, i'd not even get half of that back either :'(
...Not that i'd sell it like but still :)

welcome to the site priest565
x 1 for neo's post if you have not bought it yet an your only looking to make a few quid after popping it through an mot hold on!
personaly i dont think you will make alot back if any.
Now i love my 24's so don't think i am trying to put you off but a bad example will swallow your time and money as parts are becoming rare and costly so choose wisely and throw a few more pics/history up if you can the lads here can advise you a bit more before you buy it
and all the best if you do buy it keep us posted on your progress.
And you wont find a more helpfull site anywhere for the nc24.

Re: nc24 purchase advice
Yup the 24 is a great bike. I was talking to a nice guy at a bike meet the other day who was on a spotless W plated NC35, he was a bit of a 400 nut too which is always good.
Anyway, he said he's owned 24's / 30's and the 35 he has now.
He prefers.
The NC24 handling
The NC35 brakes
The NC30 looks.
Interesting I thought ^_^
