The rotor is only used for crank angle referencing. So the actual firing order,order and timing is determined by the CDI. So it definately will not work and is very dangerous. It is a different case if the engine architecture is the same, ie zxr vs zzr, that will work. There are some CDI crank rotor profiles used for other manufacturers that will allow you to switch configurations using rotor changes. cheers

hi guys i know this is an old post but thought i would put this on here any way as might help some one else,iv got a cbr 400rr nc23 and thought the cdi was buggered so went to a breakers and found one off a vfr and although the connecters look the same ther not so i used the connecters off the cbr one and it took a while to get it right but got the vfr one working on the cbr but it really wasnt right the bike wouldnt start or even fire so the simple answer to your question is no it doesnt and its really not worth even trying,try ebay for second hand cdi's ther pretty cheap i got one for 35 quid,pluged it straight in and the bike started first time
