paint on tank keeps cracking
i think someone before me sprayed something perculiar on the tank. when i got the bike, i filled in all the cracks in the paint on the tank and gave the tank a realy good rub down. these cracks varied in size but they were anything up to 2mm - 3mm in diameter at worse. once prepped, i sprayed 2 or 3 coates of primer on it, 3 coats of black gloss and 3 coats of laquer on it. it first it looked fine, then after an hour, i could see patches starting to come through which made paint lose its gloss effect, then after a few weeks the cracks started to come through! and it just looks rubbish, it looks like crackle glaze! lol. what on earth has someone sprayed on this tank?! my dad suggested someone may have sprayed cellulose on there. will i have to strip it right down to the metal and start again?

Yeah, the only way to get rid of it for certain is to go all the way back to metal, and spray your bog filler and primer from there.
BE thankful it's not fibreglass, at least once you get back to metal and cleaned it properly (use a prep wash liberally) it will be gone, I've had this with fibreglass where something must have gotten into the resin or the fibres and ended out throwing the panel in the bin.

this can also happen if for eg...you try spraying acrylic over enamal or vise versa...also,this will happen if the paint hasnt dried,and thus isnt hard enough between coats

someone has suggested using nitromores. i imagine that will get it off if im carefull, ive had some on my skin before, nasty stuff. wheres the best place to get it?

B&Q, or any hardware store.
Nitromors is great stuff, paint a good thick coat on, leave it for about 5 mins and then you can probably scrape the paint back to bare metal.
Its a nightmare if you get it on your skin, wear gloves and a long sleeve top. and maybe goggles. I used it when i took my stairs back to bare wood and it worked a treat. It took a week to do but was worth it. you should be ok with getting a small tin of it for doing a tank. - And it should take less than a week!

nitro moors is mental.
i got a tub yeterday - gpot back to the bike shop, still in my leathers had to try it out - it worked- but so well it started melting the plastics, i then ran to the sink, knocked the tub over (silly long can) it went all over the tyre at work, all over some of the tools etc, my work mates went mad at me, and i melted my panels by mistake. oh well
it works though. Only problem is how to apply, i tried with a spong when i got home, but it started to melt the sponge and I could not remove the smears of spray paint!!

its been stripped back to the metal now, turns out, someone had put some form of enamel as a bas layer, which stunk like 2-part filler, ive stripped it back to bare metal, rubbed it down and gave it two coates of cellulose based primer (at least i think its cellulose based, because you cant thin it down with pure contact cleaner) and its rubbed down a treat! yay!
