Just in case anyone's interested I tested the Ignitech CDI for the nc29 from Rick Oliver loaded with the HRC map back to back with the stock CDI and was quite surprised by the results
Blue line is stock
Red line is the HRC map
Bike has stock engine with HRC ram air scoop nothing that would affect ignition timing

unsure if its cool...
seems like a waste of cash at the end of the day if its only marginally better than stock
im sure with other tuning it may reap better benifits...but how far do u go,and would you still test back to back ecu's....
interesting

It does seem like a bit of a waste.
I'm hoping when I get the bike back to the dyno at xmas I will be able to test some of this stuff back to back on my race engine. It might tell a different story.

nice1 bro, since starting to build the nc29 the ecu has amazed me...with an nc23,there you have a choice of the blue(restricted) and gold(unrestricted) label cdi...which are both stock cdi's,just a year apart,88-89...the differance is very noticable
my only concern is the speed limiter on the 29,seems to be a few methods of getting rid of it,in the magic box i have what looks like 2 m-max thingys...which i think has something to do with it.

Harley at RB told me to run the Blue/Orange wire from the CDI to the +ve terminal on the battery. No need to keep the crappola inside the speedo. Ran my bike like that for 18months or so, no probs, before I got the HRC cdi.

Its only 1/ 1.5BHP up on stock (through 90% of the power curve) ok its not exactly amazing I was just quite surprised really as I have tested a few HRC CDI's over the years on various RVF's in varying states of tune and never once seen any noticeable power increase from back to back testing, Also this is just a base setting and once the engine and exhaust are finished I will map it properly and do another back to back test with the stock CDI.
The questions that have been answered here are
Stimpy you still running the NC23 or have you come over to the dark side?

I'd be interested to see the ignitech/hrc versus a standard cdi on the dyno.
I compared my rvf hrc cdi to a standard one on the track and swear the standard one rode better for a crap rider like me!

That's what I've always done also.
