nc24 help needed or maybe a bargin for someone.
hi folks,as i was just about to get on my bike this morning i noticed that the knob thingy that adjusts the suspension has snaped, the actual piece of metal going from it to where its secured to the bike has snaped.
has anyone had this happen before and if so what did you do,would it be advisable to try and get a new one from somewhere or should i just try and get someone to weld it.
it seems like a strange thing to snap considering its not been hit or anything, its not as if ive ever droped it.
i got this bike a couple of months ago as a commuter to and from work but im starting to think i may have made a big mistake.
when i got the bike the guy sayed ther was an electrical problem with it and that he had just fitted a new battery and reg/rec but still couldnt sus the problem out, well i came on here for advice and wrote everything down that everyone told me and gave it to my local bike mechanic who looked over the bike and tested it with a meter and says that its fine and that the battery should still be charging, well now my mechanic is away on holliday and sure enough the battery just keeps running out every 2 days,i know now because i keep charging it again that i will have to buy a new battery, maybe reg/rec and alternator, ive already resigned myself to that but whats getting me is that it appears even when the bike is charged it wont start from the butten unless its a hot day and i give it full choke.
i dont even try to start it in the mornings with the butten now and just go for bumping it straght away, even then ive found myself running up and down the street with it for 20 mins or so.
and if this is what its like now in the heart of summer then i guess its maybe usless to even try in the winter.
could their be something wrong thats causing this or are these bikes known to be bad starters in the mornings.i used to ride a suzuki gs 500 and never had any problems like this and i also had an old honda super dream, lol, that was my main commuter,i mean the super dream i used to ride to work in frost and everything,it was just a case of whacking on full choke and starting her up,easy as that and she never let me down for about 2 1/2 years.
youve maybe guessed that i dont know anything about bikes appart from how to ride them so when i got the nc24 i didnt know really how to make sure it was ok,i was looking for a type of bike something simmular to the old superdream, you know something that may look like a piece of junk but never lets you down, but when i seen the nc24 and me being taken in by the guys speel i just went for it.
now i wish i would have stuck to my origonal plan.
i dont really know what to do next so im hoping some of you guys who have been thru it all and knows their stuff can give me some advice, should i cut my losses and sell the bike the way it is,swap it for something that fits my origonal plan, spend money on it then do one of the above two,or just keep the thing untill next year and hope it gets me thru the winter, which to be honest even tho i dont know anything about bikes or engines,i know it wont.
althow ive kind of fallen in love with this wee nc24 it just doesnt seem practical for me to have it,i need something i can rely on in the morning so if any of you nc24 lovers want to swap with me for, well to be honest anything that i can rely on,im in the glasgow area and would consider anything reliable,no matter how it looks.
this thing has 10 months tax and mot and looks to be verry good condition, everyone whos seen it says i got a maga bargin,i have all the bikes service, mot, and parts history,to cut a long story short it is a great wee bike, the only thing that lets it down is what i need most, reliability.
any advice at all folks would be great, sould i keep it and take my chances in the winter, swap or sell it now while it has loads of tax and mot left, and while its still summer and someone who rides for fun can get good use out of it,or should i just tie it up and cry like a baby, lol.

Re: nc24 help needed or maybe a bargin for someone.
by the way i also met a guy who races a vfr who said if i give him a call in the next week he will give me loads of parts for it including fairings, wheels and brake discs for only £20,the guy seems like a pure gentlman and races with my mechanic so as soon as my mechanics back from his holls il give the guy a call and get all the parts so if i do keep it at least i have loads of spare parts for it,althow that aint gonna make it start quicker in the morns, lol.
it will also be a good selling point.and also the 10 month tax/mot.
i dont think il have any problems if i do sell it tho, cause as ive said everyone whos seen it,bike mechanics and racers included seems to think ive struck it lucky with it,its a pitty i dont feel the same,if it only started when i need it to id be like a pig in,,,,,well you get the drift.
oh and a mate was telling me i can get something that i spray in to the carbs(i think) that will make it start better, would this be an option, does this stuff realy work and is it easy to use, maybe that could be the answer to my problems if it does.
i remeber seing a program on tv about kasakstan and it was that cold the guys had to heat their engine up with a blow torch in the morn to get it started, lol,i would actualy consider this if it garenteed you get to your work in the morn, lol.
if my girlfriend would let me i would just put the bike away untill i can learn about it and get another superdream to see me thru the winter, but that aint gonna happen.
anyway sorry about rabbiting on,and do let me know what you all think i should do.

Re: nc24 help needed or maybe a bargin for someone.
sounds like your alternator is shot.
if you are getting charging issues and it supposedly has a new reg/rec and battery then the only other issue can be the alternator. does it stall when you put the lights on? if you do the alternator make sure you get a new woodruff key in the generator flywheel, they are about 60p and it saves heartache of the other snapping when its been apart. get a voltmeter on the battery, it should read 14 volts of charge when revving it above 4k.
don't sell it, persevere, you'll only regret it when someone buys it for a song, fixes whats wrong with it and then loves it. i have done that before and regretted it as i let it go cheap.

take it to somebody that knows what their doing! Or take it back to your mechanic when you have the problem present to show.
Sometimes you get problems that can be a right pain in the ass to solve (like a freyed wire that shorts out every so often) but this sounds like it shouldn't be too difficult to solve :)
You say it'll only start off the button on a hot day? Thats odd... what does it do on other days (crank over and not fire up? or not crank at all)
Have you tested the electrical system yourself? Its not difficult to test and with a multimeter should only take about half an hour.

id say go with that plan! get youreself a cheap multimeter for a fiver or a tenner, and test it youreself! if it is the alternator, there about £60.
I hope you get it sorted mate!
Theres loads of info about what to look for with regards to what to do with the multimeter etc!
If you were closer id say dont fix it and let me buy it for a bargain price!!! lmao
