"Are we saying the bike is a non restricted from the factory?"
err. no! 1988 + CBR400s are restricted out the factory as standard. only the Jelly mould Aero is not restricted i believe.

"we derestricted the blue cdi with the resistor mod to the cdi."
>how did you manage that when the only way to remove the limiter on a J NC23 is to fit a different colour label CDI unit*?
now one of 2 things are happening here... 1) in all the years i have been a 400GB member and ridden my bike.. i have NEVER seen anyone fit the res mod to a NC23-J bike or CDI. its never been suggested by any of the people in the know.
or 2) you lot simply do not listen to whats being said by people who know what they are on about = NC23-J does not use the res mod!

"need to attach the 2k resistor direct to the cdi or even inside it"
>do NOT open the CDI unit. its a waste of time as they "pot" all of them to stop idiots attempting to do what your suggesting!

"GF thinks the running issue is due to having the blue cdi instead of the gold."
> and you lot are ignoring that advise!

*can anyone tell me what colour label is factory standard, and what colour is "delimited"?

right LP thanks fot your help but theres a few things we need to get straight.....

The Bike is a RRJ, but at some point in its life some one has put a Blue label CDi on it that has the Orange and blue wire - this is the restrictor wire no? so we did the resistor mod on it so that cdi is now deresticed as far as others have advised..

And YES i did listen to GF - but have you got a gold label CDI you can send me? or the £50 to buy one as this is my friends bike and neither myself or him have that spare at the moment - hence following other advice to derestrict the blue cdi to rule out the cdi until a gold one can be bought

Problem now seems to be the carbs, my carbs are 100% so iam going to take mine off and try them on his - if that doesnt sort it out iam going to set it on fire lol :peace:

I have an NC23 1988 J model .
It to my knowlege has no restrictor (its a race bike ) but i have the gold label CDI fitted.

If there is a wet plug issue i would check the delivery rate on the fuel pump to assure its supplying enough to run all cylinders. It may be a simple fuel pump failure.
Also check the pesky relay that controls the fuel / coil power.

I had a similar symptom after i fitted a fuel filter that was too restrictive.

Just a Kiwi's 2 cents worth lol.

Paul.
