Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
hi all... this bike is also in my care, it has had a known good battery off my fireblade fitted. the cdi is a blue lable one but we have now discovered the bike is an RRJ not a K. the bike was bought with the said blue lable cdi and i am now thinking that someone has swapped the original gold lable off it at some point. how compatible are the two cdi units???
it has the extra witre for restrictor (orange and blue) what wire should the 2k ohm resistor go between????

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
the resistor mod works on Honda CBR400RR-K NC23- 1989 onwards + all NC29s/VFR/RVF/CB's
the J model i believe has a speed light that comes on in the speedo when you hit 112mph/180kph. most people just cover it with black tape.

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
many thanks for reply
the loom doesnt have an orange blue wire so this bike is not restriced if it has the standard "gold" cdi i assume.
if i put the 2k resistor at the cdi end will it rule the cdi out or will i need to try a gold cdi
the bike is defo an rrJ model as its frame number and age match up on the dvla computer to a rrj not rrk

Have you known the bike to run properly or was it bought like it?

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
Andi.. do NOT fit a res mod to that NC23!!!!
i just told you that the res mod can ONLY be fitted to a NC23-K and onwards. that means the J model is NOT included!
from what i have read over the years, the older NC23s get de-restricted by fitting a different CDI unit. i dont know what colour the label needs to be.
mind you.. have you tested the bike with a known good CDI unit yet?

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
Hi LP. The bike came wiith a blue cdi fitted, to rule out the cdi I fittd the one of mine which I know is fine but is also a blue label. Gf thinks the running issue is due to having the blue cdi instead of the gold.

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
Are we saying the bike is a non restricted from the factory?
But we have a restricted cdi?
If this is the case the cdi will need a signal to say the speed limiter is connected to the cdi,
So you would need to attach the 2k resistor direct to the cdi or even inside it unless you get some pins to go in the plug or cut up a later type loom.
Is there any signs of an old alarm that's been removed?
Test the cdi on a known good bike.

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
Hi all, we derestricted the blue cdi with the resistor mod to the cdi. But it still run on 1 & 4. We decided to change the carbs again to the other set. It now only runs on 1&2???????
The others are getting fuel as the plugs are getting sooty and are wet with fuel when you whip them out. If you Take the leads off and shor them on the frame they are sparking.
What the hell is going on!!!!!

Re: NC23 bizarre running problem
Running 1&4 would be coil/cdi/pick up coil related
Running 1&2 is a fuel problem as fuel is tees off between 2&3 or the balance could be out between 2&3 meaning its dropped out on 3&4 also check pilot settings.
At a guess I think the carbs you just fitted aren't 100% and you have a broken wire or suspect plug that is now making a circuit after you've disturbed it by changing the carbs.
