so whats the optimum length of a can for an nc30

standard length compared to race can length etc.

most of the 400 jap cans i've had have been around 400mm long and 100mm dia but the perf tubes have all been different sizes.

so have the inlet/outlets but i think it was discussed on here that that might be more down to noise than performance ,i think the ideal is some thing 400mm long,100mm dia with a 50mm bore.

the twin can systems i have are weird,one jap one has two 400/100 cans where the other build in the UK as 400/88 cans, and most of the Uk twin can systems follow the same.

i was just thinking today about how cans are made for a specific bike and i thougth there must be some reason behind it as it will need certain pressure etc. so i was wondering what the likes of yoshi hrc and the rest of the jap systems have for our little 400s with the view of getting a nice can made up and ran with some other slip ons to see what makes best power etc.

The optimum Length for ANY four stroke tailpipe, is generally calculated by taking the Length of the Collector and adding Three inches.
Of course, to find the optimum Length of Tailpipe, your going to want to have the optimum length of Collector, and to do that your going to need the optimum primary pipe length. Let me explain.......
First you need to Calculate how long your Primary pipes should be to get the best performance out of the bike. the following formulae is used to work this out:


Once you know your optimum primary length, you can work out your optimum Collector Length using the following Formulae:


And then Finally, from the above you should now be able to calculate the optimum length for your tailpipe!!! using the following Formulae of course:



And budda-bing!! One ultra high performance Exhaust system!! You simply cannot get any better exhayst ANYWHERE if you stick to these formulae!!


NOTE# A sperate Formulae is needed to calculate the Internal Diameter of the Primary Pipes.... but I cant be arsed to draw another fancy picture. LOL

i had an argument with a friend the other day about his "stubbied" can would result in a loss of power that although may not be noticable in his day to day use compared back to back on a track for instance would be to which is ignorant reply was "yeah but ive had it jetted to suit" i thought to myself how actually stupid are you before agreeing with him that he is right as hes the type who wont accept hes wrong.
