Gear change...
Quick question,
Fairly new to the nc30 and have already used this forum to see im not the only person who used to have trouble finding neutral and that there was a 'knack' to finding it! lol
Well i am also having trouble changing from second to third, and only seems to wanna change easily when at high revs!
All my other gear changes are fine and coming down all the gears is also fine..its just changing from 2nd to 3rd, it seems a realy effort sometimes!
I dont know again if its all down to technique or if I may need to look into this problem further!
To be honest its probably just me! lol.. but maybe somebody out there has ahd the same problem!
All ideas Welcome :D
Cheers!

Hi Mate,
I have the same problem on my nc race bike, and after loads of advice it seems its a very common problem and you just have to live with it!!

Re: Gear change...
I too have this problem.... I am normally riding the bike very sedately, and probably below 5'000rpm most of the time to save fuel etc etc. On longer journeys, where i pick up the pace a little/quite a lot, I dont tend to have the problem as much.
Could it possibly be something to do with the Oil, and the heat of it perhaps??? I dont know, I certainly dont plan on stripping the gearbox to find out, im happy to live with it.

Re: Gear change...
When your riding slower the engine will be getting warmer, so this could be thinning out the oil and making it a bit more clunky. Although personally I have never had this problem. The only problem I have is the bike jumping out of 6 sometimes, but I think that is due to me not kicking it home properly.

Re: Gear change...
Agree with you on the neutral thing. The amount of time i sit at lights looking down at the light trying to find neutral sometimes.........
regarding the gear change, mine is the same. If i change gear at lower than 5000 revs it needs a good heafty flick to change, otherwise it's an easy change. Think that's just the way they are really

Re: Gear change...
I'm so glad I found this thread !!!!
I too am new to the 400 world, and I've just bought a VFR400. Same problem - I can't get it into netural.... takes ages, and I mean ages !!!
I was going to send it to the garage, but after reading this, it looks like its a common problem and something I'm going to have to live with !!
Now off to try and find the threads about it for more details....

Re: Gear change...
Neutral problems?? oh fancy that me too, wat i have heard & makes sense to me is that we are experiencing a clutch drag, meaning the clutch won't fully disengage wen one pulls the clutch in, i have found that reving it slightly helps get it into neutral also try finding neutral while the bike is still in motion. My cousin has the 750 Magna (which has the v4 750cc engine), which absolutely refuses to go into neutral while at a stand still. but manage to get it if the bike is rolling a little. he has had the clutch repaired numerous times to try get it fixed with no luck. but why don't u guys try reving & rolling it into neutral & post up to tell us if it helps at all??
with regard to the gear change, i have trouble getting my bike to stay in second when i gun it, maybe its cos i use little to no clutch but when i pop into secon while pushing it if i don't keep my foot up for a while, it drops bak into neutral & i sit motionless with a screaming engine, it sure make sme look like a tool.
