Starting probs ??
Hi guys been a long time since last visiting the site so Hi again to you all still here just a lot off other things going on just now !! but yes the little nc30 is still here with me !!
okay looking for a bit off advice, bike a "92 nc30 has been sat in the garage unused / unstarted for over a year, gave the bikes battery a good charge but for some reason even thou the battery appears to have taken a charge ie. lights on / full beam showing okay when you press the starter button the relay just clicks away, if you change the choke setting on the bike the clicks speed up ie put choke full on and the clcking noise from the bike sounds fast but there is no intention off it starting. with the bike sitting for so long unsed does the above symptoms point to anything in particular ??
will probably just renew the battery anyway but from what I can determine is does not sound like its the battery at fault ie the engine does not even try to turn over just the rappid clicking noise heard ??
regards batteries - ones sold on ebay intended for the nc30 okay ?? certainly cheap enough just not sure if they are acceptable quality - anyone bought one from ebay ??
lastly !! need to change the rubber valve on the rear wheel as I see it has perished and is letting out air if moved by hand, looks simple enough to change the rear wheel just wonder if anyone knows off hand what size socket / spanner I will require for the main nut ?? also torque settings for tighting back up ??
are there metal valve covers that would prevent the rubber on the valves from perishing or is it just something that happens thru time ??
thats it for now !!! any advice on any off the above would be great.
cheers,
john

Re: Starting probs ??
what you need to determine is whether 12volts is getting to the starter motor or not.obviously power is getting to the starter relay because of the clicking noise.sometimes you get the clicking noise when there is not enough power to crank the engine but in this case it sounds like the battery has enough power and it would atleast attemot to crank the engine a little bit.
sounds to me like the problem lies between the relay and starter.possibly the starter itself.you should maybe attempt to bump start the bike.

Okay thanks for your reply, just seems strange that the bike was fine before being layed up ?? at the risk off appearing a complete numpty
anyone advise me the best / easiest / safest method off push starting an nc30 then ??!! also you reckon if I can get the bike started using this method it may cure the main problem ??

Re: Starting probs ??
im not saying it will cure the main problem, but if the bike starts this way then you no for sure the problem lies with the starter motor or the fact that no power is getting to the starter motor.
if you have a multimeter you can test the connections at the starter motor and see if there is 12 volts getting to it whilst pushing the starter button.you can also test to see if there is 12 volts leaving the the starter relay.
it is clear that 12 volts or partial power is getting to the relay because of the clicking noise.
i would make sure you have a good hill and ignition on,2nd gear clutch start to roll down the hill.once you have enough speed let the clutch out.the only issue with this is the bike has not been started for a year so this might not work.
best bet is,get the multimeter out.
