Whoa, my forks bottom out quite easily. If i hit a pot hole or come up onto a driveway at a decent speed, I always have to pull up and back on the bars or I get this hollow "bong" sound, and a hard knock through the bars. I also cant drag the front brake down bumpy hills or it bottoms out really easily (really doesn't sound good when it happens) so I usually drag the back brake down bumpy hills and keep my weight back.
I asked my old mech about it (i got him to do new fork oil and seals a few months ago), he said I can put a bit more air pressure in the shocks with a bicycle pump. I asked whats standard and he said 1 bar is std, he said its best to leave it how it is if i can. :/ I really dunno anything about this. I'll ask my new mech what he thinks. doesn't seem right how sensitive it is to bumps. the front suspension is really really soft, when I brake it compresses like a mofo, but I cant say its ever bottomed out under normal hard riding and braking.

you can't just put air in the forks, they don't have provision for it. raising the airgap will do more or less the same, but it sounds like you need stiffer springs before doing anything else

Are you talking about an NC24? yep, the nc24. seems to have little car air valve things on top of the forks, but now I read in another thread adding air pressure is unadvisable. So i'll just let it be. I thought there might be some adjustment. Its fine, I just have to be careful with bumps.

I got ricks fork kit in my 94 NC30, he supplies it with 10w oil and a syringe to get you the correct fork oil level, just follow his instructions.
I use the bike for road and trackdays and it is absolutely perfect for both.
Set up as rick says and it uses nearly all the travel but never bottoms out.
I just had to set the preload and rebound damping to suit my weight.
Dont forget also that the front suspension is affected by the rear, so even with a correctly set up front if your rear shock is next to useless the front cannot compensate for it.
