Can't find 33bhp restrictor washers?? :S

Post by Manticorp »

Hey, wondering if anyone can help me, just gone to all the trouble of taking my bike apart in search of the 33bhp restrictors currently in there - got down to the rubber inlet things for the carbs ( i think ), couldn't see them, so I whipped that off and no sign of them under there either

The picture shows the place I'm at at the moment, can anyone please tell me where they might be? bike is a VFR400R NC24

Thanks for any help! I hope i can get it sorted this afternoon

Restrictor washers hard in the rubbers between the carbs and the cylinder head.
You will need to remove the carbs to get to them.

As Aly says you have to remove the carbs, i would recommend putting the carb tray back on as it'll be easier

If you look under your carbs there are some rubber inlet mounts, remove the choke cable from the carbs and remove the idle adjuster screw from the housing. then just loosen the hose clip type thing on each rubber and remove the carbs (you dont have to remove the throtle cables btw) and you'll see the washers.

Good luck getting them back on you'll need it

just a tip on this as i've had my carbs on and off loads recently.
You'll usually find that you can get to the rear clips no problem (think jubilee stylee clips) but the front ones are a pain. The front left can be got at with a bit of jiggery pokery and the front right can usually be accessed by inserting your screwdriver between the frame and the thermostat. There'll be 2 clips per rubber and you only need to release 1 per rubber (total 4). Then pull like hell and they''l pop off.
You'll need a good pozi screwdriver to loosen them as the screwheads are rubbish and will round off easily.
When the carbs are off you'll find the restrictors easily enough.
To get the carbs back on align the front 2 and push hard. Then insert a flat head screwdriver between the rear carb mouth and the rubber and just ease it in slowly and carefully. By twisting the screwdriver slightly you'll deform the rubber enough to pop the carbs back on.
Good luck!!

i find warm the bike up fist by going for a ride, let it cool down for 30mins then carbs come off and on a doddle cos everythings warm a flexable, screw drive is needed for rear rubbers tho to align them ;)
