Thunderbike Smashed, Need forks

Post by Thunderbike_steve » Thu May 21, 2009 5:14 pm

Hi guys sorry been away for a while but work has been sending me here there and everywhere of late. But for the few days I have been at home I manged to squeez in a track day at Cadwell last Monday in preperation for racing there last weekend.
This unfortunetly ended with me catapulting the Thunderbike at the Goose Neck and the thing cartwheelling 6ft in the air down the hill.
I have subsiquently come to discover this has bent my forks (and frame and subframe and many other bits)
So if anyone has a set of forks for sale please let me know, Preferably RRSP forks but RR one will do as you can bolt the cartrage kit in but loose compressionadjustment.
Hope some one can help
Steve

Don't suppose the fork stanchions can be rolled straight ... or are we talking a "bit bent" like beyond the "polishing out" stage ???

Still, I hope your ok and the bike is rebuildable

well it snapped a mud guard lug off so complete forks required i think, I think the technical term for it is FUCKED. The fork bottoms also are not 100% straight, only slightly out of line though
I'll stick a picture of ther remains on later.

Steve, you will be amazed at what can be done with bent forks.

I did exactly the same thing at the goose neck about 6yrs ago and it damaged the forks so bad the cartridge rod was bent! I had the stancions straightend while the forks were built up and the cartridge rod done after i stripped them. You can just feel a very slight dimple on the stancions just below the lower yoke but they are bang on straight so its no cause for concern.

If you need any info as to who can do the repairs just let me know.

If it helps i have a set of sp forks minus the stancions should you require any parts.

Just out of interest did you run a little hot into the top of the goose neck and cut over the grass on the left hand? It looked nice and smooth when i did it but in reality was like a ploughed field which resulted in lots of cartwheel action!!!!

I hit the gooseneck run off back in May 94; agreed looks smooth, whilst being like a ploughed field!

I'd been out of scaphoid induced plaster for just 5 days (self administered early release through boredom) and I nearly shat my pants when I realised too hot meant running off onto that bit of ground.

Good news was stayed on and had a corking weekend, nabbing a 2nd in the supersport 600's at my first ever New Era meeting (I was a KRC/Bemsee boy you see)

misty eyed, he crept off to bed.

Good luck with the forks Steve.

Toosmooth & KIYOSHI,
I basically slung it left so hard my knee hit the floor, then the fairing/bike overswung slightly landed on my knee. This must have taken the weight off the wheels as it just vanished from under me. I had a massive moment at Brands (Druids) last year when the bike hit my knee again, but i some how saved that as i wasn't launching it one side to the other so hard.
Maybe I should stop using Dunlop slicks for 250gp bikes because it allows you to lean forever.
Anyway it's all my fault for having balls bigger than my talent. The annoying thing is I had just done a 1:45 the session before and had got the first part of the lap better than I ever have before on any bike. Lapping at 1:45 would have placed me between 6th and 8th in the races
This is what remains

oooh, that's not a nice one.

still as our mum's would say to us "at least you're alright dear", which bless them, isn't really what we want to hear when we have a bike in 7 million pieces.

I wish I could make more of a dent in your required spares list, but as it stands, I'm more 3EN than 3TJ.

Keep us abreast of how its going. When's your next round?

Well there is Snetterton on June 6th/7th.
I may have the 727cc beast ready for then, but it depends when Jim who is modding my frame/r6 forks for it finishes it and how much it will cost
I can build the bike in half a day so long as I have all the bits but the 727 will need running in and then a trip to the dyno, the 600 needs the head to come off and valves regrinding as there is lots of Cadwell down the intake :(
So think I'm going to be very busy
