shaun, i think that 13-14 volts is normal for a healthy charging system.

No and no. They're such a tight fit that there's no chance of them budging, I wouldn't have used them if that was even a remote possibility.

Hiya, you have to have a source of more potential(voltage) thats higher than the battery so current will flow from the hi potential side(the genarator) into the battery to charge it. But the battery is only 12v as a nominal output voltage, i cant remember how to work out the specifics but you multiply the nominal voltage by so much percent and it takes it to about 13.2ish or something for true votlage reading.
You can charge a 12v lead acid battery upto about 15-18 volts depending on wat sort of battery you have and how much charge current the battery will take.
