Restoring a CBR.....the wifes new bike

Post by sharky »

Picked this up this week....1993 NC29 $2300 (market value down here is $4500-5000)
Needs a bit of TLC....

This is going to get a full strip down and ground up rebuild...powder coated frame & wheels, custom paint job etc...
It will make a nice change as most bikes I build are full on streetfighters...

Don't forget to post pics of the build, looks like a great starting point! Are you keeping it all standard or installing a aftermarket fairing like TYGA?

Nate :)

Keeping it standard mate. The wife has lost her confidence on a bigger bike (zzr600 streetfighter....too big and heavy for her) and as she has owned 2 of these before in the UK she jumped at the chance of getting back on one....she loves 'em....seeing as she's 4'11" and 47kg soaking wet....fit's her perfick.
Its got Coerce rear sets, after market billet clip-ons and a st/st 4-1.

where are you from?
If in the US may be hard to get parts for the CBR as it was never officially imported and customs love impounding them in ports! the few you do see are track day tools with no reg documents.
but if your willing to wait , parts are available from the right places. ebay, Graeme France, David simon. last 2 are members here.

First stage complete....only nasty I found was a bent and badly straightened fork...they're pitted to hell anyway so not really an issue.
Found a few bolts missing...minor stuff like a subframe frame :o
On the plus side it looks like its got $1000 worth of Sansei clip-ons and Coerce rear sets  And the st/st exhaust is light as.
The previous owner certainly got his moneys worth from the front sprocket......

I've never seen a sprocket that bad before. Not in 18 years.

People who do that to poor unsuspecting motorcycles deserve a good :spank:

That sprocket needs saving in the hall of shame, made me laugh though. Russel if theres any bits and pieces you need from here in the UK let me know mate. What do you have in mind colour wise? Race rep or one off?

Chris.
