No fuel flowing from tank!
hi guys,
prob with my 1987 nc24
stripped and clean carbs and put all the bike back together and also installed an inline filter to the fuel pipe and now i can see im only getting a trickle of fuel from the tank even when its full to the brim. i took the tap apart a couple of weeks ago and all seemed ok, it doesnt have a filter in the tap hence the inline one. vacume hose is new so is all good, no kinks etc.
dont get nothing but a trickle out of the tap on reserve or on and the vac tube is on the side of the tap. dosent work if you put it on other either, tried sucking on vac tube still no fuel????
please help.
cheers dave

not sure to be honest sure one of the experts on here can tell you
when i sucked on the vac pipe i could hear the diaphram click
you can do a tap coversion so you dont need the vac but you have to remember to shut fuel off when you not running i should think

cheers for the replys.
heres a head scratcher for you
i took the tank off and sucked on vac pipe and fuel pissed out so thats all good, connect it up and it doesnt flow?????
ive tanken all the pipes off no blockages there new anyway. no kinks when fitted. took all the pipes off the bike and had it connectted to tak to see what happened, no flow with filters in, flows when there off, they are the correct way round, they are marked.
could they be restrictive. really want them in there to catch the crap. plus ive cut down all the pipework to make room and dont really wana have the carbs off to refit new pipe down the middle of them
cheers dave

Re: No fuel flowing from tank!
Well if the filters are old then they could already be full of crap and restricting fuel....
But you seem to have established that there is not problems with the tank or tap as fuel flows when the vacuum is applied. So check there are no blockages in the the little nub the pipe connects to on cylinder 3, is the engine running properly?
Don't mean to insult ure intelligence but you are turning the engine to test the tap once vacuum hose is attatched yes?

Try turning the filter around - they only flow one way..

they are new filters, clear so can see theres no fuel getting into them. vac pipe is new and nub is clear blew through pipe into cylinder. fuel does not flow through filters either way round or with engine running or me sucking on vac pipe take them off and fuel flows???
could it be that its a gravity feed and the filters may require a pump or is this not the case???
tried both ways but the are markedCMSMJ1 wrote:Try turning the filter around - they only flow one way..

Re: No fuel flowing from tank!
If it's the filters which seem to be causing the problem then are they the right filters? A filter wouldn't neccesitate a pump. Fuel should flow through them under gravity.
Try taking the spring out of the tap, (this will cause fuel to flow under gravity, so make sure tap is in off position before moving), Then see if it will flow with the filters in.

just read your post but have already got bike back together. i could not get fuel to go through filters but as soon as they were off there was plenty so have reconnected it that way!castrol101 wrote:If it's the filters which seem to be causing the problem then are they the right filters?
