False speedo readout

1) re-set the needle to the right place. this may take a few trys!
2) you do NOT need a converter.
3) remove speedo limiter.:-
if you have your speedo open and out of the clock body, flip it over and look for a black half moon shaped disk crimped on to a larger silver drum. peel the disk edges over the crimps and remove the disk.
the sensor (a light trap) will sit waiting for the disk to break the beam.. only now there is no disk to ever break the beam.
if you dont fancy messing about inside the speedo as there is a HIGH risk of screwing up the magnets and springs (even with popping off the needle. must be very careful. you can fit a bypass mod to the out side of the clocks, see the link below to a thread in this section. the DIY instructions are the same as a NC29.

Yes, messing up the springs etc is a big concern, i think what i should do if i am going to have a go at repositioning the needle, is to perhaps get an already derestricted speedo setup that is properly calibrated needle-wise either for mph or kph, either way, have that as a backup in the (likely) case i mess up my existing speedo.

If i get it right i can sell on the backup speedo, if i dont, least i have a bolt on ready to go :)

you cannot buy a speedo converter any more they where made by motrax who have stopped doing them, while you have speedos apart remove the metal pin that touches the disc in the clocks when it hits 180kmp as that the restriction part for a full speed bike

loads of retailers still have them in stock.. so not a worry for a few years!
this is with getting a speedo thats had the disk removed is... how careful was the person who removed it? (same for a MPH fitted face.. did they put the needle on right?)
i'll be 100% honest and say dont mess about inside the speedo and fit the bypass mod. the link i posted is a free DIY set of instructions that does NOT involve you opening the speedo up to fit it. it plugs in to the 3 pin plug that notches in to the back of the clocks.

If the restrictor disk is still there on the inside of the speedo, you should be able to use this to reference where the needle goes.

The only thing you need is a speedo that still has the restrictor disk in place to compare to.

the disk cuts the beam at 180KPH.
move the disk round to meet the beam line, pop the needle on at 180kph and let go.

and remember that there are 2 stages. there is one beam that gets cut at 50 mph (speed light on the dashboard comes on) and the other is the top speed restrictor.

LP you made me feel really stupid for not realising that the top end is at 180kph, its obvious isnt it!

wasnt out to make anyone look silly. far from it. sorry it came across that way.
i was going on "using the disk as a reference" bit, thinking on the lines of turning the drum that has the disk on it round and line it up with the light trap then plonking the needle so it reads "180kph" then letting go of the drum to relax the needle on to the stop peg.
mind you.. as i am a NC29 owner. i didnt know/remember/realise that the NC23s have the dash light that comes on and didnt know there are 2 light traps. 1 for dash light, 2nd for top speed.
PS.. *regular 400GB users* know where the speed limiter sits. i know your a regular, the thread originator may have not known that.. but does now.
