NC23 vs NC29 for racing - 400 Newbie

Hi All

I just joined up as I'm about to purchase a 400 for road racing and it seems a wealth of 400 knowledge!

I have the option of a NC23 or NC29 but am undecided. Both are setup racebikes, have similar suspension already setup/modded. The 23 has a 17inch rear conversion.
Both have very fresh rebuilt motors with headwork etc.

While the 29 is newer I've read the 23 generally has a stronger motor (rods?), stronger gearbox/clutch setup and can be a little more stable handling was ride at the limit?

I did take both for a run around the street the 23 motor has maybe 150km's of track time, the 29, 50kms, so neither all that run in, but the 23 definatley had more balls, which the owner has put down to having more head/flow work than then 29.

As such I'm leaning toward the 23, unless theres something I'd really be missing getting a 29?

I race a 29, and while I love it to bits, from where I sit the only advantage is that in Australia there are more 29's than 23's making parts slightly easier to get than chicken lips. My 29 now has a 23 head on it. That might tell you something. :up:

Stimpy (fellow member) races a 23 and regularly hands me my arse on the track (when he shows up - hope to see you soon Stimpy!!!). He'll no doubt tell you how great the 23 is!

sweet, well minds made up, 23 it is :)

Where abouts are you racing, I'm Brisbane (so Morgan Park it'll be, maybe the paperclip on occation). Might give you oportunity to hand a newbie on a 23 his arse haha.

i see you did some nice times on the weekend greg...i might have to actually modify my 23 to keep up lol
im waiting for the all clear from the doc before i can race...
but to be honest,im taking the airbox off,and racing in the stock class...theres no way i can afford to race in the mod class
will just have to get angry and ride harder to keep you modified guys honest.

when are you guys next tracking it? and where abouts? what class do you ride in?

Picked the bike up tonight. Thanks Stimpy, no doubt I'll have plenty of questions.

From what I've been told it has later 400 carbs on it, air box is custom carbon fibre (using the tank as top) and ram air fed. Engine is bout 3 track days old, head has apparently extensive work ported and flowed, valve seats etc cut back blah blah. Currently has built std 23 front forks, and cbr600 rear shock, but also have set of built cartridge forks with it to put in and try.

Now just gotta wait for the track :whistle:

sounds like its sorted dude...
watch over reving on the down change...the valves dont like it

yeah I've heard they don't like to be over reved too much, seems easy to do also when ones be riding later model gixxer 1k with spastic long gearing and slipper. :o
