nc23 import cbr400 1989 RRK front light alternative?

Post by wig » Thu Apr 30, 2009 11:11 pm

Is there an alternative to the front light that comes with the nc23 import. RRK.
Mine has 35w dip 60 full bulbs that are a pain to get hold of.
also on dip beam it is hard to c where i am going?
are there similar lights that use a standard H4? 55 / 60
cheers

I think you can get standard bulbs to fit if you cut the tabs a bit to make it fit. I did try this ages ago but it wasnt a huge success.

Why not just get a couple of bulbs from Graeme France or David Silver?
Too many bikes, so little time!

or.... you can modify the NC29 headlight units to fit a normal H4 with no tab cutting...
i have no idea if this mod works on NC23 headlight units...

see the link for DIY instructions.....

Iv heard doing this using non standard bulbs causes electrical problems else where?
My regulator burn't out and I heard from someone that the incorrect bulbs could have been the cause?
Don't hold me to it though

I can imagine it may cause a few problems with the current drain on the batt, but your bike should be desiged that it can run with full beam, which uses even more current.
I can see a problem with the batt not getting charged enough as there is more drain of the current, and possibly fuses blowing unless the dip runs on the same fuse as the main (which I think it does)
the regulator is likely to die more from not having enough current drained or if it is in a position where it cannot cool properly.
the regulators are so cheap imnot worried about that.
cheers for the post!

the issues you will get *IF* you run higher than normal bulbs are:-
The dip/main switch gear/Dip side gets melted.
Headlight fuses often have to be upgraded
a 2nd headlight relay has to be fitted so each headlight has their own relay.
some bikes need new wiring put in between the switch gear and headlight.

there is a mod that can be done to save your switch gear.. by adding and upgrading the relay and fuses. however it was a mod i never saved as i had my wiring done by an auto electricians as i was running 80/100W bulbs once upon a time. i still have all the mods in place with the HID ballast kit.
