Wicked bike Martin! The attention to detail is fantastic.

Have you had the bike started yet? I think you'll find that it will idle very high, setting the air screws to 1.5 turns out will help.

one question though - is it for track days only or will you race it?

reason i ask is - if a scrutineer see's the front sprocket with no cover they wont pass the bike and you won't get out.
Track days only. I'm not even gonna contemplate wasting my time and money trying to race as I'm slow and when i do try to go faster I only fall off  If the sprocket cover is a problem at track days then I've got a spare untouched one that can go on.

Thanks Cam. It has started and you're right, for it to idle properly it needs to be at about 2000rpm. I'll give the air screws a half turn back, thanks for the tip.

You're married Rhory, you should be used to it by now ;)
reading through the list and visually our bikes are almost the same, and it's funny as the only things i remember chatting to you about where the carbs and the F3 manual.

if you can keep the work going and i look forward to seeing what you have to say about it getting a run on the dyno with stephen at the wheel, all you need now is a period paint scheme and some GREEN number boards.
So it's green number boards they used was it? No prizes for guessing what paint scheme the bike will have mate...

More pics after the weekend Rhory, not gonna have access to a computer until Tuesday and it was too dark by the time I'd finished last night to take anything worth while. :(

That's interesting, has that changed recently? The reason I ask is last trackday I was on there were a couple of mini-twin SV650's which both were missing the sprocket cover[1].

You will not get checked at the vast majority of trackdays for legal reasons, a few may run 'safety' checks but I know of only one of those (and they had no problems with the missing sprocket covers).

[1] Although it's easier with the SV650, you just have to leave the cover off rather than cut it down.

I also thought, seeing as running HRC open carbs involves running without an air filter it would be prudent to at least install something that would prevent major pieces of crap being scooped up through the main air intake and into the carbs. The result is this, the gauze from the back of an OE air filter bent at 90 degrees with a piece of HRC filter foam cable tied to it and inserted into the V between the headstock and frame cross member. Hopefully it’ll keep the worst out.
I worry about getting stones in the carbs if it ends in the kitty litter rather than in normal use (and they get everywhere).
In the case of our NC30 carbed NC35 the top and front of the airbox has been cut and covered in mesh with a stocking (!!) over it. I have no idea how well it works in comparison to anything else but it seems to work well enough and should provide enough protection without blocking flow too much.

The VFR750F has a stainless mesh over the carbs themselves, you may be able to adapt similar to fit over the open carbs without restricting flow, I even have a picture.
