starting problems

Post by ONDA SF » Wed Apr 22, 2009 11:28 pm

I bought a 93 cb400 sf last week with 26k on the clock, it runs fine only trouble I am having is starting it.

From cold if I use the choke it will not start, and I just flatten the battery trying. With no choke it take about 4-5 goes before it fires up. It does have a restriction kit fitted, would this make starting dificuilt.

Thanks Colin (new to the site)

i had teriible starting trouble with my 95 SuperFour. Turned out the that previous owner had messed around with the idle jets and had it set up for racing. i took it to a carb specialist in Dublin and had it back in two days. Its now running sweet as ever and starts no matter the weather. Just something thats worth checking out.

Frank.

The restriction kit will make it run very rich which is why you don't need the choke to start it. It needs to have the main jets in the carbs changed for some smaller ones to lean the mixture off. This will give you the added benefit of better performance, better mpg and less chance of killing your sparkplugs.

Thanks for that, I think I will take the plugs out and see how rich its running.
It was restricted by a Honda dealer, though I dont know if the jets were changed at the same time.

Cheers Colin
