My nc30 running a bit rich

Post by wacker315 » Sun Apr 19, 2009 10:25 am

Hi all, another question from am afraid :oops:
My nc30 is running slightly rich i think. There is lots of dark smoke from the exhaust, strong smell and it seems bogged down sometimes when i give it some throttle. Normally takes a while to get it started too without the choke. It starts first time every time with full choke and no throttle but once i try to close the choke off the bikes just feels like its bogged down and stops working. What things can i do to stop it from running rich if thats what you think it is? cheers
Sean

Tell us what is done to the bike and we'll do our best. Full syste, half system, just an end can??? Modded air-box, changed carbs???

If it starts easily with choke on and hard with choke off, I wouldn't think it is running rich. Pull some plugs and take a look at them. They should be brownish. If they are white, you are too lean. If they are black, too rich. If they are wet, then wayy too rich.

As far as the bogging while running, there could be many things causing this. When was the last time you checked/changed the air filter? At what throttle opening does this happen? Is it more prevalent when the bike is cold or hot?

Read up on cv carb tuning here... http://www.factorypro.com/tech_tuning_p ... gines.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The carbs may just need a strip, clean and balance. Also, the plugs and filter may need to be replaced. Without knowing the condition of your bike, I really can't guess what the culprit may be.

Does the choke release properly - it could be sticking on and making to too rich...

what are the revs at idle?

if the choke is stuck on then the revs will be considerably higher than the normal idle of 1300rpm.

Hi all again, never had chance to sign in since left my post. The bike is totally standard. e.g standard exhaust. Just fitted new plugs and recently checked the air filter. The revs at idle seem fine too, they are around 1300rpm. The bike seems to be only like this when its cold and hasnt been used overnight or something. Once it gets warm its totally fine and it will rev as much as i want it too. Hope this helps
