whats your opinions on my dyno graph ?,now with video..

Post by royster81 »

ok guys,
yesterday gareth did me the favour of running my bike down to the Hein Gericke open day where you got a free run on the mobile dyno if you bought something in store.

once off the guy told gareth it's very rich,like 10 jet sizes too rich ....

it's running ;
120's all round
standard (dirty) filter
FI needles
0.5 shim
2mm slide hole
twin stack pipes
2.5 turns on the A/F screw

and here's the chart
Image
and here's the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhmKAg3mfEs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

ok i knew it was a bit rich but 10 jet sizes ....please .... the guy told gareth try 112's instead ?!?!?
and i know the dirty filter isn't going to help things either but from looking at that graph is there anything i can do to help bring the A/F back down into trim and maybe release a few more horse's
the top can (front head i think) fires off a few flames on the over run around 7/6 grand but the bike pulls cleanly up the gears.
any help is appreciated thanks

oh and i forgot, i tried 115/118 (standard sizes) on the bike before fitting the 120's and the bike didn't rev out and seemed to hit a bit of a wall at 10 grand,once i fitted the 120's it revs out nicely,no doubt gareth will be on shortly to tell you what he thinks of it and to relive the Z1000 story lol.

should i try backing the A/F screws a 1/4 turn and maybe drop the needle high a 0.5 mm ? or should i buy a new filter first ?

Big thanks to you mate for reminding me why I've not sold my 400 (not ridden an NC since my accident last August) I'm not gonna post what I think you should do as its like teaching you to suck eggs. I'd start from bog stock and work from there with a new/clean filter.

As for the Z1000 story. The dyno day was a Hein Gericke (about 5 minutes away from my house) and a mate on a Z needed some oil in his bike and I needed to swap the VFR for the GSX-R so off we went. To get to my house its a bit of motorway and a big right hander and a roundabout. Said rider of the Z followed me home and as we got to the lights at the end of the slip-road he flipped up his visor and shouted over, 'That's not even your bike... I was doing over 130 to get past you' LOL and my reply was, 'Nah, don't worry about it' LOL

As the lights turned green off we went, big sweeping right hander, nick into 5th before banging down to second with no brakes allowed, left-right-left at the roundabout and the Z was gone. Next thing I heard from him was, 'Fella, I just couldn't keep up' LOL Z-owner is a good pilot too, and after getting off the VFR it made the GSX-R feel like a bus.

Anyway, for only having 55 horse its all useable and can still embaress a few bigger bikes (even if the shock is a stock '89er)

It is far too lean down bottom as well and then just is strangled by the filter I'd guess.

Go back on the air screw to richen the bottom end and perhaps try the new filter and no airbox lid? You need the air to get in there for the extra gee-gees

That will lean it up a lot and has got to help.

Are you on NC30 carbs still mate?

yes mark the bike is still running NC30 carbs,i haven't found a set of NC35 ones at a reasonal price so i'll stick with what i have and know (or don't know as this shows lol)

a mate called by today with his video of it on the drum so hopefully i'll get it uploaded and you can see it

i backed the A/F screws in to 2.25 turns and rebalanced the carbs,i'll get a new filter ASAP but apart from that what can i do/try. i don't want to go back to 115/118 as i don't think it revved up top very well.

cheers for the replies guys

Dude, something doesn't look right there. You shouldn't have all that smoke when you roll off the throttle. That isn't burning oil is it?

Probably washing the bores.You've got to go smaller on mains .
And the pilots need to come outwards not inwards.
