newbie with nc30 issues

Post by mikevo » Sat Apr 11, 2009 7:30 pm

Hi new to site have bought a none runner, was told just exhaust needed refitting as it was reassembled without new crush gaskets, refitted the exhaust and tried to start
Took awhile to get it to start maybe 30 seconds with full choke, bike ticked over ok but soon as you try and rev it stalls ,so let it warm a little , after about 1 minute tried rev again and you have to blip throttle quite a bit to make it rev then it will rev to 6000rpm then splutter a lot the rev on
took bike out and was very hard to pull away had to slip clutch to get revs up pulls up to 6000 but wont rev past it
any ideas

all advise gratefully accepted

regards mike

ps it fitted with i think one of the cheap chinese cdi !!

U need to clean the plugs and clean the carbs out probaby as well.. Plugs should make an instant difference but if still not running well at operating temp u'l have to clean the carbs which really isnt that difficult of much of a hassle.. Not sure of the cdi, doubt it causing the prob tho, just get the basic service done with oil & air filters & should run fine

Check that fuel is flowing properly from the tank by attaching a tube to the vacuum nipple and suck, if fuel flows its fine.. Perhaps the person who cleaned the carbs has fiddled with the idle screws? Theres a lot of things to check to get fuelling right, float levels, diaphrams moving freely, all air passageways clear, fuel actually getting in.. Another thing to try is take the air filter off and run it briefly without it, see if this extra air helps cos might be caked air filter tho service should av replaced that.. & obv youv got fresh fuel in the tank!

Ok obviously theres fuel going thru fine, so the fault possibly lies with the ignition system.Have you checked that all plugs are sparking? Backfiring may be an indication your getting spark at the wrong moment when valves are open, that cdi may be the problem, does it have a brand name? Someone here might have a spare cdi you try out??? Another thing to check if whether the reg/rec system is working properly, check the voltage across the battery @ 5k if you can get it to rev there, otherwise just make sure the battery fully charged& outputting at least 12.5v. Check whether the coils are getting charge by connecting multimeter at coil inputs& grounding to frame.. I think the prob lies somewhere in electrical system/ignition system. oh and also make sure you dry the plugs if youv turned it over a lot without it firing as they flood easily

Has it got a speedo? Does it have a derestrictor?

If it is cutting onto 2 cylinders at 5.5k revs then this is the limp home mode that is triggered when the CDI doesn't see a speedo attached.

Might be as simple as that?

the speedo is working and has a reduction gearboxs on it to convert to mph

the main issue is it wont rev from idle at all at moment :(

you need to know that it has a standard airbx, std carb settings and so on.

There must be someone down there that can help you out.

a few hours would see this sorted I am sure.

Thinking on - regardless of the converter - this issue is not speed related, it is electrical.

no idle is bad enough though... has the idle screw been set right?
