any ideas please?
Hi all, i bought my nc30 last week and the battery was totally dead. Just bought a new one and its now fitted. The bike had been sorn for 2 years and not used at all. It took some getting started even with the new battery the other day, after finally getting it started i went for a quick 10 min blast on it and left it over night. However i cannot get it started now? turns over but nothing seems to be firing? Yet to change the spark plugs though! think this could be the problem? Help much appreciated as this is my first ever bike and am a total newbie

spark plugs seem logical.
but it'd be wise to check the fuel / vaccumn tap hose are ok.
If they are ok and new plugs don't cure it i'd check the reg/rec.

as above, additionally though:
just check though - normal start of nc30 is full choke and no throttle.
if you're getting a clicking from the relay but no cranking then battery is flat.
you could try bump starting (be careful or ideally get someone to help push you) - 2nd gear (1st will lock rear wheel). push up to a reasonable speed with clutch in and in 2nd gear, release clutch.
could check the voltage of the battery too - if it's less than 12.3V it needs charging (suggests reg/rec may have an issue or too much starting!)

if it has not ran for 2 years then there is likely to be crap in the carbs and the plugs might be goosed too. Have you put fresh fuel in it?

NC30. The choice of champions! Welcome to our world.
Now don't take this the wrong way, you state that you are new to bikes. Just make sure that the kill switch isn't in the off position. I'm not being cheeky, I decharged a battery once churning and churning the engine before I discovered the mistake (which I blamed on the wife!). Ha ha.

Thanks for all your help guys. The fuel has not been changed at all. so thats what i am going to do next i think. The battery is on the oxidiser at the moment too just in case i have about flattened it with trying to start it so much. Once changed the fuel think i will try and push start. That fails then new plugs.
Checked the kill switch before i posted a question! saved all the embarrasment and well worth mentioning so thanks. Thanks for been so helpful.

If it catches then don't think to twist the throttle..it is likely to flood and kill the plugs (if they are not dead already)

my nc30's in pretty good nick - fully serviced, synchronised carbs etc, but still when I start it I usually have to twist the throttle to get her going. So try giving the throttle a sharp twist whilst the start button is pressed down. also - my bike doesn't like starting for a good ten minutes when it's cold - I mean 'been outside' cold - so I stick it in a building the day before riding it, and it's fine.
probably just gotta accept these things will happen with an 18 year old bike. still rides like a modern one though
every time before you start the bike make sure you check the following:
kill switch set to RUN (I was pulling my hair out when it wouldn't start - it was the kill switch. how embarrassing)
choke fully ON (pointed to rear of the bike)
fuel tap to ON
that it's in neutral (it won't even try to start otherwise - safety feature)
sufficient fuel in the tank
that isn't intended to sound patronising - i do these checks every time before i start her up
