The balancing should not make it that bad. Have you had the carbs off and cleaned them? You might want to search on here for "the dril bit method" of carb balancing. A few of us use this method where you use a 1mm bit in the butterfly and balance the fit of the bit as per normal methods but instead of the mercury you are using a 1mm or smaller bit to match the butterfly openings.

Put your finger over the vacuum hose, or fold it over and ziptie it closed. It is an easy fix.

if you had seen the state of this one you would understand! besides he cant handle his drink and we had been down the pub most of the day! i had always fancied one and the chance came up, had to push her 3 miles back to my place, the brakes semed to be binding so i gave them a kick to see if they would free up and the 'meat' fell off the pads they had rusted through!

it may have been cheap and i do ahev the basis of a brilliant machine but it is going to take some work first

What is the plugs situation? Have you had any new ones? Pull one of the rear ones out and I'll bet it is scabby..

new plugs about 2 weeks ago. the original that had been in there for at least the four years the bike stood still, they still had a spark outside when tried against the casing but under compression there was just not enough to get her to fire.

i am off this weekend so i will have a look at trying to 'cheat' balance as we mentioned earlier before i can get hold of a proper balancer set. how much rpm is ideal when trying to balance the carbs on a nc30? watching a chap on you tube last night he upped the revs to about 1800. if i need it slightly higher than idle then hopefully i sould be ok cos if it just idle i think i might struggle as they are so unbalanced at the mo i am fighting with the throttle.

Balance them with the drill bit when you have the carbs in your hands... Not on the bike.

I find that it works just lovely and have never balanced any carbs by vacuum since..

right ive just read an older thread on the drill bit trick. Looks fairly simple screw the idle adjustment all the way in put the drill bit into no.2 and close it so it holds the bit in position. Then alter all the others to match, after that screw the idle adjuster back out bout 1 & 1/2 turns. Seems fairly simple - is that about it?

what size of bit? iv got them starting from about 0.5mm upwards

you need 2 of the same size really..so anything you like - easier the smaller it is though.

You got it - pretty simple really and much less ballache than trying to connect the carbtune gear to a hot V4 :o
