Will now not start :(

Finally got the NC30 back together. Carbs cleaned, float heights set etc. All has been fine. Starts first press of the starter. Although its first raod ride was sunday gone. Went for a small blast. Came back stuck her in the garage happy.

Came to start it tonight and no go. Just cranked and cranked. After a while I assume it flooded as it smelt of fuel. Usual method to start full choke and no throttle.

Anyone offer suggestions on what to check Could it be a leaky fuel pipe? As the tank was left in the on position. Before this it ran perfectly!

Does the vacuum side of your fuel tap work? i.e. If you disconnect the fuel hose hose does fuel run out with the engine stopped?
The have a bad habbit of flooding themselves if "the fuel tap mod" is done, check your oil level hasn't gone up and the fuel tank level gon down.

Do you have spark at all?

Do you mean does the fuel run out of the tank itself? Or via the hose? Is this done with the fuel tap in the off/on position?

I have not checked for spark yet tonight. I will do tomorrow. I would assume that Spark is there as it was sunday and it has not moved. It had new plugs a few weeks ago as well.

i'll try to explain what i think jon is referring to.

on the back of the fuel tap there is a small metal pipe that sticks out, onto this there should be attached a rubber pipe.
this rubber pipe comes from the engine and when compression is created (i.e. the engine cranking) it creates suction in the pipe which opens a diaphragm in the fuel tap.

the fuel tap mod is where people remove the diaphragm (not really needed for ordinary road riding). hence if you open the tap on a VFR tank the fuel should not come out. if you open the tap and see petrol pouring out, the mod has been done

Ahh I see.

I had a little look this morning in the garage while I was draging the GSXR out. It does have a smaller pipe (I assume the Vacuum) and the larger pipe which feeds the carbs.

Will pull the tank off again tonight and check the vacuum pipe. From memory it felt very streched so could be pinched or even broken. It must be something fairly simple as it has been starting on the button until last night and has not moved since Sunday when it ran fine

Will check spark and pipes tonight. I hope it is the first as at least the plugs should not be fubbared from all the cranking

I had the same problem, the vacum pipe came off while riding lost all power then bike would not start. You will need to take the tank off to see the pipe. I replaced the pipe with a new one and the bike started first time!

Pipe was in place and not damaged at all. Still no joy.

However whipped out both spark plugs on the rear bank, plugged them into the HT lead and earthed it on the engine and frame and no spark was present at all on both plugs. Plugs were a little damp but I cleaned them off with a blow torch gently and wire brushed. Not even a small spark

So I guess thats the culprit. Any ideas what to check?

What about the kill switch?
Been there myself and also bought a bike once that someone had been trying to start for 3 months with the kill switch to STOP. He had been replacing all the parts from the ignition he could and it was that bloody switch all the time.

As in Kill Switch on or faulty? First thing I always try as a friend has a habit of turning it on whenever I leave my other bike unattended.

check all the connections to and from the coil that feeds the back 2 cylinders.........if they all seem fine get a multimeter out and test the coil and see if its maybe faulty.

you could try another set of plugs just to be sure,whether you can get some from a friend just to try as they are a bit pricey,especially if you don't need them.
