I'm not sure if you lot would be sick & tired of seeing yet another thread about a winter project taking longer than it should, but just incase you are interested here's whats taking up all my free time:

SUNDAY-


Started by getting the frame, s/arm, yokes and wheels powder coated from a local shop to me (Fastline coatings - Preston), they did a top job, masked off all bearing areas & internal threads, price was pretty good as well. A complete replacment of all bearings installed along with newly serviced Maxton shock & forks.

TUESDAY-



Managed to pick the engine up from Dynopro racing, it had previously been skimmed & gas flowed along with the quietning gears already being whipped out, so Chris give it a refresh along with replacing any parts that needed to be replaced, a couple of tweaks that were done was the Cams which where made adjustable so that they could be correctly dialed in, also the heads were converted to carry big plugs(now running the twinspark thingy's..). Also Chris helped me with installing a HRC carb kit, now running the HRC bellmouths, emulsion tubes, needles & springs

Never really built a bike from scratch before so I've been very careful to put things together correctly, never leaving anything half tightened before walking away, maybe to cautious at times, But finding out you only nipped up the swinging arm pivot while your flying down the straight at Aintree wouldn't be the best.

THURSDAY-



Managed to put together the front braking system and install it on to the bike. I already had the EBC cast cast iron disks & the hoses but managed to source the SP1 calipers and CBR600rr m/cylinder from America on Eblag I bought these a good six months ago, the exchange rate at the time did seem to offer some great deals. I also bought a set of tracktech levers to bling things up a bit. I also stuck the alloy race rads on(not pictured) which I also got of ebay s/hand.

You might notice a common theme here with regards to secondhand purchases, thing is I don't have the money to go out and buy new for top dollar. To be honest I don't have the money to throw at race bikes full stop(two kids, morgage, bla,bla..) But after racing one a couple of years ago and realising these bikes are special with their V4 big bang configuration & standard slipper clutches etc.. So the only way I can justify the project is I would work out what I needed and slowly picking-up bits and pieces(under her radar) at the best price OR when I could afford it. It's taken me 18 months to get everything together.

In fact - anyone who can be arsed to get any V4 restored and loved is hardcore....


more pics please...I want to see the cams..lol I also want to know the score with the plug conversin - just bored out and helicoiled for std thread plugs or something more crazy?

With regards to the engine mods you'd really need to talk to Chris at Dynopro as he's the mad scientist when it comes to the engine, I'm just the caveman who hand's over the dosh. CMSMJ1, I'd say your right about the way the big plug conv is done rom what I can remember..

Sorry its been a while, but I've managed to pretty much get the bike finnished.










Got it down to Chris(Dynopro) for the final set-up with the progamable ignition, also sorted out the shiftlight and quickshifter to run through the CDI. SORTED!!!

69(yeh hey!)BHP, on one of the runs it did hit 70 but it wasn't the best curve, tried all sorts. Going to Oulton tomorrow first proper run, should be good.

Looks like the 'full season' idea is coming apart already... But If nothing else I'll see ya at the Grand!!
