NC30 battery keeps dying despite regular use

Hey guys i was on the way to work and had a total freaker when i copped on that the odometer/speeedo were in miles not kilometres unlike the other bikes and thought i was seconds from runnin outta petrol so i pulled over before a petrol station just to check but it was fine.
Went to start it again and nothing,starter motor didnt budge,no clicks from the relay,all electrics were fine!
Thank god a guy gave me a bump start so when i got to work i turned it off again to test and it started fine.
That was 2 days ago and no problems at all since.
The bike was very hot due to filtering for 10 miles straight very slowly (was knocked off last week and wrecked my other bike CBR250RR bike)
Any idea what it is.
Can too high a temp prevent it from starting?

i killed a zxr 400 once, had the temp needle bending it was that hot, stopped, let it cool down then started first time, soon as the water pressure built up it was like something Fred Dibner would make, steam everywhere, but it did start and run. Does sound like it maybe could be the starter??? not an expert just good at guessing lol

I find a similar problem when not riding fast enough to sufficiently get a decent charge to the battery. Most likely charging system or battery issues. My temporary measure is to turn my headlights to sidelight mode when riding through town etc to reduce workload on the battery/charging system. Don't mean to be patronising, but if ya do the same, don't forget you'll be reducing your visibility to other road users!!

Hi sabre have you got a trickcle charger, if not to buy one is a sound investment.

for the relay to not clck the battery would have to be very drained.

when you tried starting the bike did your lights work and did the ignition lights come on?

if so the problem lies between the starter switch and relay!!!!!!!

get yourself a multimeter and next time it happens check what voltage at the battery is..........

i find a battery with 11.7volts won't start the bike but it tries to turn it over,where you get that battery is dying noise......

but with this voltage it still provides enough power to power the lights and a nice clicking noise at the relay.

For the charging system to max out, the engine needs to rev to 5,000rpm only - chances are you are revving the engine higher than 5,000rpm just pulling away, so I cannot see this being the cause of your problem!

Have you checked the plug from the generator into the main wiring harness, i think its under the seat?? I had similar symptoms as you describe but on an nc24. The bike would run fine until switched off but then wouldnt restart unless bumped. The contacts were so corroded and dirty that the plug was getting hot and smoking at times. In the end i chopped mine out and fitted new spade connectors gave the battery a good charge and its been fine ever since.

could be a duff starter switch if you wasn't getting anything at all. Usually a knackered starting system runs the battery down and it'll still crank or make the relay click.

It's worth checking the charging system out to rule it out if nothing else.

The procedure for testing the altenator and reg / rec as well as the bikes battery are well documented on this forum and in the honda service manual and probably in the haynes book too.

i road the other night on the freeway, road fast for long time and then when I wanted to start the bike had to bump start it. On the way back home someone told me that the rear lights were very faded and nearly dead. I stopped at hoome and the head lights were so faded, nearly couldn't see anything. the next morning it just clicked and I had to charge the batery. I think eather the batery is at its end or the altenater has had it?
