NC24 rear sprocket replacement - Advice please? Smart ppl!

Post by Manticorp »

Okay so, here's the deal

I bought new sprockets and chain, and, after many a problem coming up, i finally got the old ones off

however

the new sprocket doesn't have the required cut-outs to allow it to pass over the bolts that attach it to the cushdrive

My dilema is - I don't wanna have to take the whole hub off, basically, just to get the sprocket on, as it means buying a new nut, a 36mm drive and also finding a suitable stand (probably an abba stand = expensive!) :Soap:

I've contemplated just cutting the new sprocket to fit - but I'm hesitant to do so as it will probably end up unbalanced and weak

The attached photos may illustrate this a bit better than my words

Mechanically minded people may see a simple solution here, ar maybe just someone smarter than me :D ;)

I'll bet you have tried everything I can think of...that sucks man!

can you put it on from behind - take the rear wheel off?

I am liking your pics...if you had a klaxon sound with it i would be even better.
Sorry dude, I got no idea... Don't go chopping the sprocket though - bad call.

Mmmmm

Well, that's kinda a last resort, as i say i don't have a stand for it, i do believe you replied to my thread before regarding spindle sizes etc...so I've just had to sell the stand i bought, I may be able to improvise though... :|

Haha well I'm glad you said that, cos i might have just gone and sawn a couple of chunks out of it through pure frustration!

Failing this, I may have to put the old sprocket back on for a while until i can get an abba stand or something....but that means doing the whole bloody job all over again...and also wearing out the new chain faster than is needed... :?

Thanks for your quick response, I'll try and keep you posted, and maybe put up a warning thread for anyone who's going to attempt to change their sprockets on their NC24's! :P

p.s. maybe some club dance music would be better? :D

Ah, is that Tony??

That's very kind of you! If I can think of no other way, I might just take you up on that offer! Certainly would make removing the rear wheel a much easier job :D

I wouldn't wanna trouble you again by making you come over here though, would coming and picking it up in the evening tomorrow, or later tonight even, be alright? :)

Okay, I'm supposed to be taking the gf out tonight anyway as valentines day steals me away from my bike, but I'll give you a ring later or something!

Thanks again, and if you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask, hope the paddock stand serves you well :)

I got them from WEMoto, the chain and front sprocket are okay, I think this is just a kinda of 'universal fit' type thing, if you see what I mean? Maybe it would be easier to buy a decent sprocket then? :S

Any idea where I can find a good one? :o
