dont think im getting choke help!
hi all,
i've been having trouble starting my bike in the cold weather, so i've been looking round the site trying to find answers to no avail.
i think the problem lies with the choke or lack of it... i did the test once i got it running where u apply full choke to see if it screems to 5500rpm ish but nothing happens
so i took the tank n air box off to have a look n the choke cable is pulling the linkage to the stop n whan i look at the carbs i can see the choke plunger(i think thats what its called) be pulled out of carb body (num2 carb from left when sat on bike) by about 1mm.
is it worth putting some redex though? or somat else im at a loss n i aint all that confident bout taking the carbs off n striping them down as i'll proberly do more harm than good.
all advice welcomed HELP!
cheers gaz

Re: dont think im getting choke help!
hello-
are you sure the plungers are opening on each carb?
if they were opening on two or three of them there should be a rise in the revs.
they may be seized and not coming out at all or enough to make a difference.

hi,
i dont know how far is far enough for the plunger to come out? does anyone know?
i could only see the number 2 carb without takin anymore of the bike apart, but i will take it apart tomoz n find out.
the whole thing seem strange as it was working last week, reving its nuts off
any other thoughts?

Re: dont think im getting choke help!
the same happened to me,one day it was working then the next it wasn't.
i also had the opposite happen, where the choke stuck on.
the plunger should come fully out,the only way you can tell is by pulling it by hand until it stops coming out any further.
if you take the carbs off you will be able to see for sure if the choke assembly is working as it should.

Re: dont think im getting choke help!
i have a haynes, im just reluctent to take it apart as its my only transport to work.
anywayz im hoping ive sorted it. i was just away to take them off when i thought id see if i could get in there with a screw driver and lever the choke plunger out, n i could :D seems i was only getting 1mm of movement when it should be about 5-6mm, so no wonder it wasnt workin.
then all i did was spray a tiny amount cleaner on it and worked it in and out with a screw driver whilst pulling the choke cable.
i put i bk together n it now revs to 3 - 4000rpm. and starts straight away. n it was 0 degrees C this mornin when i did that so fingers crossed that will be the end of that
