GF came round thismorning n sorted me out with my new forks OMG the difference is incredible, i dont know how to express how much a difference they make, i would highly recommened his forks to anyone, cant say anymore than that.

Started stripping down the forks on my NC23 RRK today as one of the seals has been leaking for a while. I was following to Haynes manual and all was fine until it came to seperating the forks tubes and the fork lowers. Having removed the oil seal retaining clip we tried sharply pulling the two parts apart but they will not move. Spend a couple of hours trying to shift them and they're not playing ball.

Can anybody suggest and tips for splitting them? Is it worth trying heating the top of the fork lowers where the seals are and then trying to pull them apart again?

Any help is much appreciated as I have a pair of partly dismantled fork tubes sitting in my garage.

Also, can somebody confirm the volume of oil required in each fork?

are you sure you have loosened the rest of the fork effectivly? have you totally taken out the allen head bolt on the bottom of the forks?

The damper rod bolt is right out of the bottom of the fork. The rest of the fork internals have been removed and the Haynes manual now instructs you to seperate the fork tube and fork lowers. They will not come apart though presumably due to a stuck top bush and oil seal...

Will it be ok to heat the area at the top of the fork lower where the oil seal and top bush is and try pulling them apart again? And is this likely to achieve much?

Or does anybody have any other tips for seperating the two parts of the fork?

skip on to 5 minute and it show you how the two parts should seperate, its an upside down frok but the prinicple is still the same.

it lieterally should slide out that easy. if you go crazy and start pulling the sanction it might spread the clower bushing and force it to come off, at which point you may be in trouble!!!

Problem is, the force he's using in that video will go no way to seperating these tubes. After several very firm tugs, the seals don't seem to have moved at all on either fork...

We have followed the manual correctly and are at the stage where they should seperate but they will not shift. Removing them from now on may well damage the bushes but what else can I do? They need to come apart somehow...

I've seen a place online that sells the replacement bushes should I need them. Presumably Honda still sell them too?

Had the same problem with mine. The first separated easy, the next was a nightmare. I managed to remove the oil seal so that I could see if I was making any progress, put a long bolt through the bottom to stand on and then yanked. Repeated the process for a hour or so and could see the top bush was gradually moving. It was a nightmare but I was replacing the bushes suppied by GF so wasn't bothered about any damage. Got there in the end though.
