Am I correct in thinking 15/40 is standard NC30 gearing?

What do other people run on road bikes? Or is 15/40 the ideal sprockets?

Maybe a 38 rear like the RVF?

More like a 15/43 if you don't go on any motorways...

15/38 would be dull I think but great for MPG  save the planet..ride your bike slowly

15/40 is standard nc30 sprocket size

like cmsmj1 say's,it depends on what you want...faster acceleration, more top end!!!

where i stay the roads are very windy( :D ) so i benefit from faster acceleration....
im running 14/40 which makes a difference,i notice the difference anyway.....smaller front sprocket or bigger rear improves acceleration and the other way for top end.

you may be better experimenting with a few combinations until you find what you want and like.i would say you are better with a balance of both quick acceleration and top end

14/40 works well for the road for nc30's, if you change the front sprocket 1 tooth smaller (instead of back sprocket larger) you can get away with using the standard length chain (104 links).

The nc35 standard gearing works well, because the first 3 or so gears in the gearbox are lower ratios than the nc30, although there is a pretty big increase in ratios (and drop in revs!) between 4th and 5th gear.

I prefer the closer ratios of the nc30 gearbox. Any changes to gearing will throw your speedo out, no biggie there are things you can do about it.

what sprockets do people recomend for track?

Iv just put a 520 tsubaki chain on and standard gearing and was thinking on going to 14 front, would this be good for track riding? what is the best config with the standard length chain?

o tracks I will be riding are, thruxton brands castle comb lydden and mallory (I no there all completely different tracks, soem fast some slow and twisty)

14/44 every time for road and race. No question. Fast acceleration and revs out at a ton. The big rear sprocket looks pretty cool as well.
Not sure if you need a longer chain but when you buy an endless chain, buying one with a couple of extra links doesn't cost that much more.
How hard can it be?

Oh dear, you sound more like me every time I see your posts, but that was way back in 1961 when my 650 Matchless was exchanged for a race kitted version.

that's not bad for a 33bhp restriction....if that's what it is!!!!

especially when mine is still speed restricted(112mph)...but where i live thats enough!!!!!!

and with running 14/40 it works a treat,it hits 110 very fast and does me well in and around the twisty a84/a85 roads :D

havent heard from you in a while arsey, how's the bike ('s)

yeh the bike's good, my mate has a full power but speed restricted nc30 and he pulls about 5 metres on me in every gear (that us both going for it) but i can out corner him and cos there's bugger all chance of loosing rear grip i can wack the power on so much earlier to get a run onto any strait so he doesn't loose me up it,

...good times lol
