hello jay

getting the valve clearances done and carbs balanced will help pro-long the "ain't broke" scenario and will keep the bike running sweet!!!!!

when was the clearances and carbs last done?

it's always better to do them now before it does go wrong, and the bike starts running crap!unless they were done lately or within the time between services

valve clearances is every 16,000miles and the carbs every 8,000miles.

as for cleaning the carbs,it it is running fine with no flat spots or splutters etc then maybe leave that out but if you are getting the other two done you may be as well getting it done

thank you william, as far as i no, checking history, either have never been done, i had the carbs cleaned last year and i asked how dirty they were, and the mecanic said they all looked fine, considering the age of these bikes.
but like u said doing them now will hopfully solve any probs in the future

definately!!!

because you had the carbs cleaned last year and the bike is running fine i would leave getting them cleaned, especially if you have not done a huge amount of miles.........

but definately get the clearances done and the carbs balanced......and your bike will be ready(mechanically)for the good summer we are going to get :? yeah right

not if it's anything like last summer :(

Carbs usually only get dirty when they are run with contaminated fuel in the tank or they are left standing with fuel in them, in which case the fuel in the carbs evaporates and leaves behind a gummy residue which blocks the carbs up.

I can't remember the maintainance schedule off the top of my head but the valve clearances and carb balancing is supposed to be done every X amount of miles.

If you have no record of when it was last carried out get it done, it shouldn't cost too much and may even make your bike run better.
